MINION COIN PURSE
I think I have made minions in almost every way
imaginable – as headwear, granny squares, motifs, pencil cases and now as a
coin purse. Aren’t they just the cutest
characters created?

Materials used : Just
over one cone of polyester purse yarn in cones , with a 4 mm crochet hook ; fabric glue to seal ends ; 4” wide metal clasp ; safety eyes ; stitch markers ; embroidery needle.
The yarn used today is not specific to this pattern.
You can use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.
International yarns : Among the international yarns I have used in this thickness, I’d suggest Aunt Lydia Cotton 10, Aunt Lydia Bamboo-Viscose 10, DMC Petra, Sullivans knitting cotton (Australia), Milford Soft, Hilaza Rustica Eclat , Alize cotton yarn and Alize bamboo yarn.
Skill level : Intermediate.

Instructions using U.S terminology
Please note that I start all my rows with a ch 1, turning chain for ease.

Please read through all my notes before you pick up your hook, so you know just where we're heading in our pattern.
For today’s minion
snap shut coin purse bag, I have worked part of our pattern in spirals, so do
not join at the end of each round unless otherwise indicated.
Now in case you
find this difficult to do (as you need to place markers every time you move up
a round, which is fussy work), then you could join – it’s just that you will
get a joint line which I do not want, hence the spiral working. Choose what works best for you.

Part 1: Body :
Start Row 1 : (using blue colour) : with 14 fsc. Turn.
In the
following row, we will work till the end, and then turn around the last stitch
and work from under the fsc row. This
will make it a round.
Single Crochet : Sc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (2 lps on hk); yo, draw through both lps. One sc made. Check out the video at https://youtu.be/ghACqBpA-3k

Row / Round 2 : sc in each fsc till the last fsc ;
3 sc in
the last fsc ;
Turn work 1 sc in
each fsc till the last (or 1st) fsc and work 2 sc in that st.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.
From now on we
will work in rounds.
Place a marker
in the centre stitch of the 3-sc set on both sides.
Round 3 : 2 sc in the 1st sc ; sc in each sc till the
st before marker ;
2 sc in that st
; sc in the next (marked) st ;
2 sc in
the next st ; sc in each st till one st before the next marker ;
2 sc in
that st ; sc in the 2nd marked st
and join with a
sl-st to the 1st st.
Move marker to
the centre stitch on both sides of next round.
Rounds 4 - 5 : Rep Round 3.
Remember to
move the marker for both rounds.
At the end of
round 5, you can choose to remove markers ; and join – or you can continue
moving markers till Round 8.

with removal of markers.
Rounds 6 - 8 : sc in each sc till end.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st
st.
In the
following round, we will work that small flap for the minion’s dungaree.
So mark the centre stitch of your next row.
We
will work a 7-sc set over the centre of our next 2 rows.
So you will work 3 sts on either side of the
centre marker you have placed.
For the
next 2 rows, we will work only for the ‘front’ of our work.
Row 10 : sl-st in each sc till 3 sc before the marker
; sc in the next 7 sc. Turn
In the
following row, we will work across the top (pinafore) for the 7 sc, and work
the two side straps, and then work down the side of the pinafore to the main
part of the purse (row 10) and sl-st all around. Got it?
Row 11 : sc in all 7 sc ; ch 12,
Turn and work a sl-st in the 2nd ch from hk and in
each ch till end ;
(You’ve now
made the pinafore strap on one side)
sl-st in the 7
sc ; ch 12,
Turn and work a sl-st
in the 2nd ch from hk and in each ch till end ;
(You’ve now
made the second pinafore strap on the other side) ;
sl-st down the
side of the pinafore till you reach Row 10, and sl-st in each st all around
till end.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st
st.
Fasten off
blue.
Attach yellow.
Attach yellow.
You have two
straps flapping for now.
Once we complete the yellow portion, we can attach the
straps to the corners of our purse.
Now here’s
where it gets a bit complicated.
We do not use the stitches on the top of that
little flap (that we’ve just made in blue).
So for those 7 sts, we will work a set of 7 chain.
In the
following row, we will work an sc in each sc and 7 sc in this ch-7 space.
Round 11 : (Using yellow) :
sc in each sc till the flap ;
ch 7, sk
next 7 sts, sc in the next st ; sc in each sc all around.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.
Round 12 : sc in each sc till the flap ;
7 sc in the next ch-7 sp ;
sc in the next st ; sc in each sc all around.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.
Rounds 13 - 18 : sc in each sc all around.
Join with a
sl-st to the 1st st.
Now we will
split our work in half and work back and front in rows.
This will help fit the snap purse handle in
well.
In case you are
not attaching a snap purse handle, but attaching a zipper on top, you just
continue till you have the length needed for your purse.

So find the two
corners of your work and place a marker on either side.
Continue
working in rows from side to side from now on.
Rows 19 - 24 : sc in each sc till end. Turn
Fasten off and
weave in ends.
Re-attach your yarn for the other side and work 24 rows in total for the other side as well. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Part 2 : Spectacle strap : (Make one)
Start: (using black) : with 24 fsc.
Fasten off and leave a long tail for
attachment.
In case you are
unable to work fsc, then work 25 ch and work a sc in the 2nd ch from
hk ; work sc in each ch till end (24 sc).
Fasten off and leave a long tail for attachment.
Part 3 : Eyes n glasses :
Start Round 1 : (using black) :
with a magic circle and 6 sc
in that circle.
Join with a
sl-st to the 1st st.
Pull together
and close circle.
Fasten off
black. Attach white.
Round 2 : (using white) :
2 sc in the 1st sc and in each sc all around.
Join with a
sl-st to the 1st st.
Fasten off
black. Attach grey.
Round 3 : (using grey) :
sl-st in the 1st sc and in each sc all around.
Join with a
sl-st to the 1st st.
Fasten off and
leave a long tail for attachment.
Part 4 : Finishing :
1.
Attach the spectacle strap followed
by the eyes n glasses onto the yellow portion of your minion bag. Take a look at my photos.
2.
Attach just the top bits of the blue
minion straps around the sides of the bag.
3.
Using your tapestry / embroidery
needle and black yarn, embroider in a mouth for your cute minion.
