CHECKERED FINGERLESS MITTS
CHECKERED
FINGERLESS MITTS
It’s
that time of the year when kids are heading off to college for studies and the
parents are rushing around ensuring they have warm wear ready.
These fingerless mitts are perfect for
feeling warm and yet having your fingers free to use on the computer and it’s
been a big hit.
Today's pattern has a lot of ideas, and video tutorials as a stitch guide. Kindly go through the full blog first before you pick up your yarn and hook. Thanks.
Come along and let’s make a pair today.

Materials used : Today I’ve used the lovely Indian Oswal Cashmilon 4-ply acrylic yarn with a 4 mm crochet hook ; fabric glue to seal ends
This yarn is not specific for this project.
You can use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.
Single Crochet : Sc :yo, insert
hk into st ; yo (2 lps on hk); yo, draw through both lps.One sc made.Check out the video at https://youtu.be/ghACqBpA-3k
First stitch for Single Crochet : This is how
I like to start my row of sc. Check out the video at https://youtu.be/6pVYRfsf4_M
Single crochet back loop only (sc-blo) : Here is an
easy video tutorial
So
we start our mitts with the band that goes around the wrist and then work the
palm part of the glove. The wrist part
is worked side to side like a rectangular strip (and you work it to go around
your wrist). We will then join this
strip to make it a round band. Our
second part for the palm is then worked in rounds off this wrist band.Easy enough, right?
How to change colors seamlessly : Here’s an easy video tutorial to show you how to change from the Main color to the Contrast or second color of yarn seamlessly. View it at https://youtu.be/fRzSBja9jno
How to carry your yarn when using two colors : Here’s an easy video tutorial to show you how to carry your yarn along when working with two colours.
a)This pattern
uses alternate rows of MC & CC.To
avoid weaving in ends and also having a lovely thicker scarf, when you turn at
the end of each row, you will take your ‘just used’ (un-used) yarn and crochet
it along row each time.
b)This way
your CC & MC come along with you for easy switch each time.
c)Due to the
above ‘trailing’ and ‘addition’ of yarn, your finished product is ‘thicker’ and
‘warmer’, as each line, in effect, has two yarns ‘going through’.
Part I : Making the wrist band
Start
: with MC and 16
fsc. Turn
Attach CC, do not cut MC.
Take your MC with you as you crochet with your CC, and similarly
take your CC with you when you are working with your MC
Start rows with a ch 1 as a turning chain for convenience if
needed. This does not count as a stitch.
Row 1 :With CC : sc in 1st ch from hk (same ch where you’ve just attached CC) ;
sc in each ch till end.
Turn (16 sc)
We work an sc-blo in the next row. In case the video does not come on, check the top of
this blog for a video tutorial link.
