thought that a heart ear ring would look lovely in my extensive jewelry
collection – so here’s what I am doing today.

Materials used : Today I’ve used our lovely Indian Red rose knitting cotton yarn , as well as some kankri / kamal kadai / polyester silk embroidery floss with a 1.3 mm crochet hook ; ready-made ear ring hooks (one pair minimum) ; beads, if needed ; glue to seal ends.
For Indians : You could use Anchor ; Red rose metallic or unbranded knitting cotton as well
General yarn info : The yarn used today is not specific to this pattern.
You can use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.
International yarns : Among the international yarns I have used in this thickness, I’d suggest Aunt Lydia Cotton 10, Aunt Lydia Bamboo-Viscose 10, DMC Petra, Sullivans knitting cotton (Australia), Milford Soft, Hilaza Rustica Eclat , Alize cotton yarn and Alize bamboo yarn.

Instructions using U.S terminology
Please note that I start all my rows with a ch 1, turning chain for ease.

Please read through all my notes before you pick up your hook, so you know just where we're heading in our pattern.
In my patterns I work with the principle of stitch count and body measurement.
This means that you need to work the stitch count in pattern, till you get the measurement (length and/or width) that you need for your project.
I
saw this cute heart motif chart on Pinterest but am unable to find written
instructions.
Once
again do note that these are just ideas and you can work with any yarn (and
suitable hook) using any sized hoop to make this project.
I started with the chart and found that it was too large for an ear ring - or so I thought. I decided to keep this as a pendant.
So for the ear rings, I decided to work one
stitch size smaller..
What does that mean?
Well, I worked an hdc instead of dc
; and a dc instead of the trc and got a slightly smaller end product.
So using this pattern idea, I made these two pendants and then one pair of ear rings.
Start Round 1 : with ch
8. Join with a sl-st to the 1st
st.
As
I want a fixed round, I am not starting with a magic circle – but if you feel
you can fix that first round, then start with a magic circle and work the Round
2 sts.
In
the following round we will work a whole set of sts right into the ch-8 sp.
Triple Crochet : trc : wrap yarn twice around hook, insert hk into st ; yo (4 lps on hk); [yo, draw through 2 lps] three times. One trc made.

Row 2 :
(ch 3 ; 4 dc ; 13 trc ; 4 dc ; ch 3, sl-st in the ch-8 sp) all in the ch-8 sp.
Turn.
Row 3 :
sl-st into the ch-8 sp ; ch 5, trc in the 1st st ;
(ch
1, trc in the next st) ;
rep (to) 9 sts ;
ch
3, trc in the same st ;
rep (to) till end ;
ch
5, sl-st into the ch-8 sp. Turn.
In
the last row, we will work a ch-3 sp all around.
For
a difference, you could work picot all around instead of a ch-3 sp.
For
a ch-3 picot, (ch 3, sl-st in the 3rd ch from hk)
How to work a picot stitch : Traditionally for a ch-3 picot, you work (ch 3, sl-st in 3rd ch from hook). For a ch-5 picot, you will do (ch 5, sl-st in 5th ch from hook).

You
could also add a bead in that ch-3 sp or picot.
If doing so, (ch 1 + bead + ch 1) and then work into the next st.
If
you want to make this into a picot, then (ch 1 + bead + ch 1 ; sl-st into the 1st
ch-1 to finish picot) and then work into the next st.
I
am not going to mention these additional ideas.. you just go crazy and
creative, will you ?!
Row 4 :
sl-st past the 1st ch-5 sp and sc on the 1st trc ;
(ch
3, sk next trc, sc in the sp between the 2 sts)
;
rep
(to) till the centre ch-3 sp ;
sc
in that centre ch-3 sp ; ch 3, sc in the same centre ch-3 sp ;
rep
(to) till end.
Fasten
off and weave in ends.
