Thanks for joining me.  Come along, let’s create something beautiful

Materials used : Today I’ve used a little Anchor Pearl thread, as well as our lovely Indian kankri / kamal kadai polyester silk yarn with a 1.3 mm crochet hook ; tic-tac hair clips
For Indians : You could use Red ros ; Red rose metallic or   unbranded knitting cotton as well
General yarn info : The kankri yarn is available only in India.
For this project, the finer the yarn, the thinner each petal, and the cuter the end result – so go ahead and use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.

Difficulty level : Intermediate to advanced.
The difficulty is the puff stitch that is the crux of this pattern. If you have done this stitch before, come along..

Stitches used :
Starting slip knot : Here’s how you start with a slip knot.  https://youtu.be/lJcqsVcs8cw

Starting slip knot 1 or the Sloppy Slip knot : This is a neat new way to start your work without a slip knot.  https://youtu.be/YfC7KmGpifs

Instruction information
Please note that I start all my rows with a ch 1, turning chain for ease.
Please check the top of this blog for easy video tutorials on all stitches used in today's pattern.  For your convenience there video tutorials through the blog too
Please read through all my notes before you pick up your hook, so you know just where we're heading in our pattern.
In my patterns I work with the principle of stitch count and body measurement.
This means that you need to work the stitch count in pattern, till you get the measurement (length and/or width) that you need for your project.

Oh, I’ve made lots of cute little ear rings (also from motifs, that can be converted into hair clips). For a quick one-stop-shop, check out these ideas at https://in.pinterest.com/shyamanivas/17-my-jewellery-made-by-me/

Magic circle : To refresh your skill, please view this easy video https://youtu.be/ISC39yOqWro

What is a slip stitch : Here is a neat video tutorial at https://youtu.be/weB3QNbA8Iw

Single Crochet : Sc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (2 lps on hk); yo, draw through both lps.  One sc made.  Check out the video at https://youtu.be/ghACqBpA-3k

First stitch for Single Crochet : This is how I like to start my row of sc. Check out the video at https://youtu.be/6pVYRfsf4_M

Start Round 1 : with a magic circle and 4 sc in that circle.
Pull lightly to close and join to the 1st st with a sl-st.

Round 2 : 2 sc in the 1st sc and in each sc all around.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

In our next round, the designer per chart, seems to have worked a puff stitch with 5 dc.  You could work it with 4 dc as well, depending on the thickness of your yarn.
You will need to work a ch-2 or ch-3 between 2 petals.
See how many chain you need to keep the petals flat.

Double crochet 4-tog as a decorative stitch : dc 4-tog :   Here is an easy video tutorial for working a dc 4-tog all in the same stitch as a decorative stitch at https://youtu.be/_B0-ye0cClU

Double crochet 5-tog as a decorative stitch : dc 5-tog :   Here is an easy video tutorial for working a dc 5-tog all in the same stitch as a decorative stitch at https://youtu.be/5806EIpgcV8

Round 3 : Puff st in the 1st sc and in each sc all around.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

I have not done the puff stitch as I did not want chains between my petals.
So here’s what I have done.
I have worked a 5-dc set of sts too, but broken them into two sets of ch-3 and one set of 3 dc.
This way I round off each petal and come back to the base of each st at the end.

Double crochet 3-tog : dc 3-tog :   Here is an easy video tutorial at https://youtu.be/qlnqXDB3OUM

Round 3A : (ch 3 + dc 3-tog + ch 3) all in the 1st sc  ;
*sl-st into the next sc ;
rep (to) in the same sc :
rep *to* in each sc all around.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

If you are making this into an ear ring, attach your ear ring hook at this point.
Then fasten off and weave in ends.

This makes a really cute ear ring all on its own, doesn’t it?

For the lower second half of our ear ring, re-attach your yarn in the centre of the 3rd petal from the centre hook.

Row 4 : ch 10 ; sk next 2 petals
and attach to the centre of the next petal.  Turn.

Row 5 : 17 sc in the ch-10 sp.  Turn.

Row 6 : dc in the 1st sc ;
(ch 1, sk next sc, dc in the next sc) ;
rep (to) till end. Turn.

For our final row, you have several choices.
You can choose either the puff stitch that you worked with the flower petals,
OR you can do the stitch that I did, and finally you can decide to add a bead at the centre of the stitch too.
For convenience, I am going to write puff stitch instructions, and you have fun creating something lovely.

Row 7 : sl-st into the 1st ch-sp ;
Puff st in the same 1st ch-1 sp ;
(sl-st into the next ch-sp ;
Puff st in the same ch-1 sp) ;
rep (to) till end.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Finishing :
To make this into a pair of ear rings :
Attach yarn to the centre of the motif and attach that yarn to the hook of your ear ring.
OR neatly attach it to the centre of an ear ring hoop.

To make this into a pendant :
Attach a little pendant hook onto the centre of the motif and slip it neatly into a necklace chain.
