SIMPLY SHELLED PURSE - crochet pattern info from Sweet Nothings Crochet

It’s Women’s day and I just put a blog up today with another really lovely purse pattern.. and a little later today, we sisters are meeting up at mum’s to have lunch together and enjoy the day. I made this quick project for mum and thought I’d share this with you too. Today I've used some polyester silk purse yarn in cones ~one cone , with a 3.5 mm crochet hook

Materials used : polyester silk purse yarn in cones ~one cone , with a 3.5 mm crochet hook ; fabric glue to seal ends ; zipper

For Indians : You could use Anchor , Red ros e or unbranded knitting cotton as well

General yarn info : This polyester yarn is available only in India.

The yarn used today is not specific to this pattern.

You can use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.

International yarns : Among the international yarns I have used in this thickness, I’d suggest Aunt Lydia Cotton 10, Aunt Lydia Bamboo-Viscose 10, DMC Petra, Sullivans knitting cotton (Australia), Milford Soft, Hilaza Rustica Eclat , Alize cotton yarn and Alize bamboo yarn.

Double Crochet : dc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (3 lps on hk);

[yo, draw through 2 lps] twice. One dc made.

Pattern Instruction

I had this lovely sunshine yellow / ochre yarn and thought that it would go really well for this pattern, along with a nice contrast gold flap.. so here goes.

Inspired by this pattern here.

This lovely simple shelled purse below seems to be made in a cotton yarn - so I'd think that our Indian Laura cotton with a 4 mm crochet hook will look wow as well.

Shell stitch : The designer has used the following stitch as a shell stitch which is [dc ; (ch 1, dc) ; rep (to) 2 times] all in the same st or ch-sp.

So what did I do differently?

Instead of the sc in each sc all through, I decided to do the Linen stitch – and if you’re wondering what that is, here’s a video tutorial

So a quick summary of what I did for the body of my purse.

Like I said at the start, I was inspired by the pattern link, but worked the linen stitch.

I then worked the pattern for the flap from the pattern link. Easy enough, right?

The stitch count is in multiples of 5 + 1.

Start with fsc in in multiples of 5 + 1

(depending on the length you want for your purse - i.e from side to side). Turn.

Row / Round 1 : In this first row / round, we will work first across the fsc row ;

and then at the end we will TURN 90°, and work 5 sc in that last st ;

then we will TURN 90° again and work at the bottom of our fsc row ;

and then TURN 90° one last time to work 4 sc in that last / 1^st st.

We will then join with a sl-st – so from this row on, we will work in rounds.

At this point, please count and check that you have an even number of sts

Single Crochet : Sc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (2 lps on hk); yo, draw through both lps. One sc made. Check out the video at https://youtu.be/ghACqBpA-3k

First stitch for Single Crochet : This is how I like to start my row of sc. Check out the video at https://youtu.be/6pVYRfsf4_M

Round 2 : sc in the 1^st sc ;

*ch 1, sk next sc, sc in the next sc* ;

rep *to* till end all around.

Join with a sl-st to the 1^st st.

Round 3 : sl-st in the 1^st ch-sp, sc in that same 1^st ch-sp ;

*ch 1, sk next sc, sc in the next ch-sp* ;

rep *to* till end all around.

Join with a sl-st to the 1^st st.

Rep Rounds 3, till your project is of the length you desire.

Once you are done with the lower portion, we will work the shelled flap.

Before you start on the flap, work at least one rounds of sc all around.

You will work an sc in each sc and an sc in each ch-sp all around.

For a neater finish, work a second round of sc, with 1 sc in each sc all around.

Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.
