have used granny squares in many many ways, and today I plan on adapting the
motif into a clutch purse. Today I've used some (Indian) polyester purse yarn in cones, with a 3.5 mm crochet hook
What
I love about this pattern is that you can use this pattern to make any sized
wallet or bag.

Materials used : One cone each of polyester purse
yarn in cones , with a 3.5 mm crochet hook ; fabric glue to seal ends
General yarn info : This polyester yarn is available only in India.
The yarn used today is not specific to this pattern.
You can use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.
International yarns : Among the international yarns I have used in this thickness, I’d suggest Aunt Lydia Cotton 10, Aunt Lydia Bamboo-Viscose 10, DMC Petra, Sullivans knitting cotton (Australia), Milford Soft, Hilaza Rustica Eclat , Alize cotton yarn and Alize bamboo yarn.

As
usual, before we head off into our project, let’s take a quick look at what
we’re working on today.
We
are going to make a set of four granny squares for this project. That said, you can make a larger bag using
this pattern, making more squares and increasing both length and height, or number of granny squares.
You can use this pattern to make a large bag as well - lined or unlined, it will be a neat grocery bag - and in our day of going Green and being Environment Friendly, I urge you to try this pattern out.
Using this pattern, you can make a lovely blanket too.
So one pattern, so many ideas :)
I
am using two colours – the 2nd colour only as a highlight and
border.
As the colours do not matter, I
am going to leave that to your creativity.

At
this point I have a 4” granny square which I think is just right, so I am
stopping now. If you want a larger
square, continue working rounds, increasing 4 sts every side till you get the
square of the size desired.
Of course as I said above, rather than increase the size of each square, you could just make more squares for a larger project - so go ahead and create.
Fasten
off and weave in ends.
I
have worked a total of four squares for my wallet. Like I have said before, you can make a bag
using this pattern too – so just go ahead and work as many squares as you want.
PART 2 : Finishing
1) To join two
squares together, use one of the joining techniques given at the top of this
blog. This gives you one front and one
back – with 2 granny squares each side.
2) I then
decided to run a round of sc all around the two granny squares that make up one
side of the wallet.
3) I then
decided to work a few rows of plain sc just for the base of the wallet.
4) I finally
joined the 2nd side of the wallet.
5) So if you
see my wallet, the black portions are the rows of plain sc for the base and you
can see the contrast colour (Black) border.
