The pattern for the Universal easy-text mobile is a simple one line repeat pattern using only ch and sc.
It can be made in half an hour.
We use the popular Linen Stitch for this creation.
Instructions :
Please note that I start all my rows with a ch 1, turning chain for ease.
Please check the top of this blog for easy video tutorials on all stitches used in today's pattern.
Please read through all my notes before you pick up your hook, so you know just where we're heading in our pattern.
In my patterns I work with the principle of stitch count and body measurement. This means that you need to work the stitch count in pattern, till you get the measurement (length and/or width) that you need for your project.
So here’s how we are working on our pouch today.
While I've used a little of my acrylic stash, you could use a knitting cotton for this.
We start with the first row that is the width of your mobile phone.
We then work the stitch pattern from side to side and continue till we have the twice the length plus the flap we need for our phone.
We then fold this long rectangle in half, sew in the sides and fold the flap over to button down and keep the phone safe.
So first measure your phone width and length.
Decide how long a flap you want over the front.
Add the flap to the length you just measured.
You now have all the measurements you need.
Go ahead and make this to fit any sized phone, I-pad, kindle or laptop cover.
Our stitch count is in multiples of 2
Start Row 1 :with 14 fsc
In case you want to start with chains, start with 15 ch (multiples of 2 + 1) for the width that you need for your mobile phone
In case you start with chain then work Start Row 1A row and then continue with Row 2
Start Row 1A : sc in 2nd st from hk, sc in each ch to end. Turn. (14 sc)
For all of you who started with fsc, skip Start Row 1A and come straight to Row 2
Single Crochet : Sc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (2 lps on hk); yo, draw through both lps. One sc made. Check out the video at https://youtu.be/ghACqBpA-3k
Row 2 : sc in 1st fsc ;
*ch 1, sk next fsc, sc in next fsc*;
rep from * to* till 2nd last st ;
sc in last st.
Turn. (8 sc, six ch-1 sps)
Row 3 : ch 1, sc in 1st sc ;
*ch 1, sk next sc, sc in next ch-1 sp*;
rep from * to* till 2nd last st ;
sc in last st.
Turn. (8 sc, six ch-1 sps)
Check gauge : Check that the width of your work is the width of your mobile phone.
Rep Rows 3 till you reach the desired length
- (which is twice the length of your mobile phone plus 1” or about 11” for above phone specifications.
In the following row there are a combination of sc and ch-1 sps.
Each of these are considered a stitch.
So when it reads sc in the next 7 sts (for eg), you will work in the sc and the ch-1 sp, counting each as a stitch.
Next row : ch 1, sc in next 7 st ;
ch 5, sc in same sc ; (button loop made) ;
sc till end. (14 sc, ch-5 button loop).
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Note : The ch 5 is the right fit for my button.
Pl check it fits your button(s) and increase/decrease accordingly.
Finishing :
1) Fold project 2” from bottom, and sew to create a small pouch.
(Top open so you can easily slip your phone)
2) Attach button on this lower half.
Slip your mobile in.. show off !
