Materials used : polyester purse yarn in cones , with a 3.5 mm crochet hook ; fabric glue to seal ends ; stitch markers ; embroidery needle ; beads ; zipper.

For Indians : You could use Anchor , Red ros e or unbranded knitting cotton as well

General yarn info : This polyester yarn is available only in India.

The yarn used today is not specific to this pattern.

You can use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.

International yarns : Among the international yarns I have used in this thickness, I’d suggest Aunt Lydia Cotton 10, Aunt Lydia Bamboo-Viscose 10, DMC Petra, Sullivans knitting cotton (Australia), Milford Soft, Hilaza Rustica Eclat , Alize cotton yarn and Alize bamboo yarn.

Difficulty level : Easy to intermediate skill level

Double Crochet : dc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (3 lps on hk);

[yo, draw through 2 lps] twice. One dc made.

Chainless start for Double Crochet : I dislike the ch-2 / ch – 3 start, and this is what I do to start my row of dc.

Extended Single Crochet (e-sc) : hk into st, yo (2 lps on hk), pull through one lp, yo (2 lps on hk),pull through both lps. One e-sc made. (An e-sc is basically an sc on an sc)

Instructions :

Please note that I start all my rows with a ch 1, turning chain for ease.

Please check the top of this blog for easy video tutorials on all stitches used in today's pattern.

Please read through all my notes before you pick up your hook, so you know just where we're heading in our pattern.

In my patterns I work with the principle of stitch count and body measurement. This means that you need to work the stitch count in pattern, till you get the measurement (length and/or width) that you need for your project.

The beauty of this pattern is that you could work with either a sc , an e-sc or a dc.

The designer has used dc all through.

that I’ve used for most part. I’ve tweaked a few things, so some choices for you.

I also used our Indian yarns, so that we can get an idea of gauge and sizing.

This is an easy pattern, as the base bit is all dc (or you could use hdc, e-sc or sc too) and then the flap is this lovely lacy shelled pattern. I love patterns that look all complicated and are so easy to make, don’t you?

So we’ll make a rectangle first, all in a simple basic stitch which will make up the base of our purse. Once we have this rectangle of the size needed for our clutch purse (i.e when you fold this rectangle in half you should be happy with the size for purse) , we will work in a continuous movement for the filigree lacy shelled flap.

So the only change I’ve made is to start with my favourite fdcs, and in case you (like me) are unable to get a proper gauge with the stitches given in the original instruction, then use the multiple method below.

Start with fdc in multiples of 12 + 1. Turn

Row 1 : dc in the 1^st fdc and in each fdc till end. Turn

Row 2 : dc in the 1^st dc and in each dc till end. Turn

Rep Row 2 till your project is the size you want for your clutch.

Flap : The instructions given by the designer are perfect and that’s what I’ve used.

Pattern detail

Fasten off and weave in ends. Finish your bag with lining and a zipper as required. Then attach on the handle, if desired.
