CUTE FLORAL SLING BAG

This blog is a long Overdue.  I made the dress and this sling bag to match the dress a long time back.. and then totally forgot that I had not posted the blog for the bag.. or shown that off either!
Let’s rectify that quickly, shall we?

Thank you for joining me.

In case you have just joined me, know that you can access all of my earlier creations by checking under ‘categories’ on the right hand side of this blog under “Labels”.  Then, for your convenience, follow me here or on Facebook, You Tube, Pinterest, Twitter or Instagram.

Instructions using U.S terminology
Please note that I start all my rows with a ch 1, turning chain for ease.
Please check the top of this blog for easy video tutorials on all stitches used in today's pattern.
Please read through all my notes before you pick up your hook, so you know just where we're heading in our pattern.

This bag is made using a lovely little doily-like pattern.
Please make two of the same, attach it around the sides, add on a long I-cord for the sling and ta-da, bag done!

Now I’ve made my dress in off-white and purple, so I’ve used both those colours in this purse to match.  So go ahead and throw in two colors .. or more.. and watch how it looks different every time.
That said, I’m not going to indicate change of colours.. and let you be the creator for your exclusive purse.

Start with a magic circle and 12 dc sc in that circle.
Pull lightly to close circle.  Join with a sl-st to the 1st dc.

In our following round, we’ll use a dc 2-tog.

Double crochet 2-tog : dc 2-tog :  [yo, insert hk in st or ch-sp, yo and pull up a lp ; yo and draw through 2 lps] 2 times (3 lps on hk) ;
{yo, draw through 2 lps on hk} 2 times.  One dc 2-tog made.
This video tutorial at https://youtu.be/1_oPlUfN5eg shows you how to use the dc 2-tog to decrease.
Sometimes we work the dc 2-tog in the same stitch, to use as a decorative stitch. Visit this video tutorial at https://youtu.be/lLUXOJ1sY9w

Round 1 : dc 2-tog in the 1st dc ;
(ch 1, dc 2-tog in the next dc) ;
rep (to) in each sc all around.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st dc.

Round 2 : sl-st into the 1st ch-1 sp ;
3 dc in the same ch-1 sp ;
(ch 1, sk next dc 2-tog, 3 dc in the next ch-1 sp) ;
rep (to) in each ch-1 sp all around ;
ch 1 and join with a sl-st to the 1st dc.

Round 3 : sl-st into the 1st ch-1 sp ;
3 dc in the same ch-1 sp ;
(ch 2, sk next 3 dc, 3 dc in the next ch-2 sp) ;
rep (to) in each ch-1 sp all around ;
ch 2 and join with a sl-st to the 1st dc.

Round 4 : sl-st into the 1st ch-2 sp ;
4 dc in the same ch-2 sp ; sk next dc, sc in the next dc ;
(sk next dc, 4 dc in the next ch-2 sp ;
sk next dc, sc in the next ch-2 sp) ;
rep (to) all around ;
and join with a sl-st to the 1st dc.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail to sew in.

Make one more identical piece for the other side of the purse.

Finishing :
Once you have the front and back pieces made, align them (such that the holes and patterns match up) and decide how large an opening you wish for this purse.  As this is a tiny purse, I decided to just put in a magnet catch button for the top opening.
Either way, decide on the opening, and mark it.  Then place the two parts together, and using one of the options given, join the sides of your purse.

You could work your bag strap separately and then attach it to the sides OR you could work join till your marker, and work your bag strap directly at the end.  Once done, attach it to the other marked stitch and weave in the ends.

crochet sling bag

Bag strap :
If you decide to work the strap separately,  make a long fsc chain , depending on how long you want it – nice thin and pretty durable.
If you want it a little thicker, then work an sc (or hdc) in each fsc of this chain till you reach the start.

Check the link given below on how to make an I-cord as well.

For the final finish, you need to line this bag.  I think that the ‘holes’ will definitely need lining – so take a look at the top of the blog for ideas on how to line it.  Attach a button (or zipper – though this may be a little difficult with the circular finish on top) to complete the beautiful little purse.

And wow.. just look at what you’ve created.
One little princess is going to be mighty  pleased

a)   How to line the bag : View the link below to see how to easily line your handbag. http://pattern-paradise.com/2014/06/12/tutorial-how-to-line-a-crocheted-bag/

b)   When lining the bag use a different coloured lining (i.e not the same colour as the yarn you have used) so that the pattern shows through

c)   Easiest I-cord : Check out this video for a really easy I-cord at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_AQ9m0QeZI
