CLOSE SHELLED CLUTCH PURSE 4

After a long break, I am back to making a few bags. This pattern has a superb shelled pattern and will look absolutely splendid in any yarn and with any color.

So here I am back again, making something new and different, and I’m glad that you’re here with me as we work on this project together.

This is not my original pattern. I found this chart for this pattern on the net, which I am using for this project and I am sharing my notes as I make my own project, as always.

Materials used : Indian polyester cone yarn (just under 2 cones ~ 100 gms) with a 3.5 mm crochet hook ; fabric glue to seal ends

For Indians : You could use Anchor , Red ros e or unbranded knitting cotton as well

General yarn info : This polyester yarn is available only in India.

The yarn used today is not specific to this pattern.

You can use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.

International yarns : Among the international yarns I have used in this thickness, I’d suggest Aunt Lydia Cotton 10, Aunt Lydia Bamboo-Viscose 10, DMC Petra, Sullivans knitting cotton (Australia), Milford Soft, Hilaza Rustica Eclat , Alize cotton yarn and Alize bamboo yarn.

Difficulty level : Advanced skill level.

sc : single crochet dc : Double crochet

ch : chain ch-sp : chain space

sp : space rep : Repeat

hk : hook yo : Yarn over

trc : Treble / triple crochet

dtrc : Double triple crochet

hdc : Half double crochet

Please note that I start all my rows with a ch 1, turning chain for ease.

Please read through all my notes before you pick up your hook, so you know just where we're heading in our pattern.

In my patterns I work with the principle of stitch count and body measurement.

This means that you need to work the stitch count in pattern, till you get the measurement (length and/or width) that you need for your project.

Before we head off, let’s try to visualize what we’re going to create here today.

We may be working different sizes for our pattern, so as always, I’ll give you a general idea and write up and you go off and create your genius product. Just remember to share my blog (with the full URL or blog link) please when you make your beautiful bag. Thanks.

Right then, let’s get started.

Our stitch count is in multiples of 8 + 1

I will start of, as usual, with my preferred foundation single crochet start, as against a chain start.

Start Row 1 : with fsc in multiples of 8 + 1. Turn.

Note : Make a note of how many stitches you start with, as you need this number for the final row as well.

Row 2 : sc in the 1^st 3 fsc ;

*ch 5, sk next 3 fsc, sc in the next fsc ;

ch 3, sk next 3 fsc, sc in the next fsc* ;

rep *to* till the last ch-5 sp ;

sc in the last 3 sc. Turn.

Row 3 : sc in the 1^st sc ; 11 dc in the next ch-5 sp ;

*sc in the next ch-3 sp ; 11 dc in the next ch-5 sp* ;

rep *to* till the last ch-5 sp ;

11 dc in the last ch-5 sp ;

sk in the next 2 sc , sc in the last sc. Turn.

Row 4 : trc in the 1^st sc ;

ch 2, sk next 3 dc , sc in the next dc ;

*ch 3, sk next 3 dc, sc in the next dc ;

ch 5, sk next 6 dc, sc in the next dc* ;

rep *to* till the end ;

ch 2, sk last 3 dc, trc in the last sc. Turn.

Row 5 : dc in the 1^st trc ;

5 dc in the 1^st ch-2 sp ; sc in the next ch-3 sp ;

*11 dc in the next ch-5 sp ; sc in the next ch-3 sp* ;

rep *to* till the last ch-3 sp ;

sc in the last ch-3 sp ; 5 dc in the ch-2 sp ; dc in the last trc. Turn.

Row 6 : sc in the 1^st 3 dc ; ch 5, sk next 6 dc , sc in the next dc ;

*ch 3, sk next 3 dc, sc in the next dc ;

ch 5, sk next 6 dc, sc in the next dc* ;

rep *to* till the last 6 dc ;

sc in the last 3 dc. Turn.

And that’s it.. our pattern done.

Rep Rows 3 to 6 till you have the length needed,

ending with either a Row 4 or 6.

Final row : In our final row, we will work a row of sc all through, ending with the same number of stitches that you started with.

So work 2 sc in each ch-2 sp ; 3 sc in each ch-3 sp and spacing out the sc over the other sc, ensure that you get the number needed.

Fasten off and weave in ends.
