I found this chart for this pattern on the net,
which I am using for this project. PLEASE read through all my notes as you are
working, especially the notes between instruction rows.
General yarn info : This polyester yarn is available only in India. The yarn used today is not specific to this pattern.
You can use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.
International yarns : Among the international yarns I have used in this thickness, I’d suggest Aunt Lydia Cotton 10, Aunt Lydia Bamboo-Viscose 10, DMC Petra, Sullivans knitting cotton (Australia), Milford Soft, Hilaza Rustica Eclat , Alize cotton yarn and Alize bamboo yarn.
Difficulty level : Advanced skill level.

Please note that I start all my rows with a ch 1, turning chain for ease.
Please check the top of this blog for easy video tutorials on all stitches used in today's pattern. For your convenience there video tutorials through the blog too
Please read through all my notes before you pick up your hook, so you know just where we're heading in our pattern.
In my patterns I work with the principle of stitch count and body measurement.
This means that you need to work the stitch count in pattern, till you get the measurement (length and/or width) that you need for your project.
Before we head off, let’s try to visualize what
we’re going to create here today.
We may be working different sizes for our
pattern, so as always, I’ll give you a general idea and write up and you go off
and create your genius product. Just
remember to share my blog (with the full URL or blog link) please when you make
your beautiful bag. Thanks.
Right then, let’s get started. Here's the photo tutorial & chart that I have followed.
Our stitch count is in multiples of 14 + 5
I will start of, as usual, with my preferred
foundation double crochet start, as against a chain start.
If you, however prefer the ch start, please
start with multiples of 14 + 7, and in the first row, please work in the 3rd
ch from hook in dc all the way to the end to get a multiple of 14 + 5
sts. This will be your Row 1.
Start Row 1 : with fdc in
multiples of 14 + 5. Turn.
For our pattern, we have a Shell Stitch which is
(3 dc ; ch 2, 3 dc) all in the same st or ch-sp.
Row 2 : dc
in the 1st 5 fdc ;
*ch 2, sk next 4 fdc, Shell st in the next fdc ;
sk next 4 fdc, dc in the next 5 fdc* ;
rep *to* till the end. Turn.
In the following row, we’ll work our Shell st in
the ch-2 sp of the earlier Shell st.
Row 3 : dc
in the 1st 5 dc ;
*ch 2, Shell st in the next Shell st ;
ch 2, dc
in the next 5 dc* ;
rep *to* till the end. Turn.
This is the row where we will create that
beautiful Large “V” Chevron shape.
For
this “V” shape, we will need to work a long row of chain (ch 7) and attach it
to the ch-2 sp of the Shell Stitch in Row 2, skipping the Shell st in
Row 3.
This is Part 1 of the Large “V”
st.
For the 2nd part, we will work an sc
all the way back on this ch-7 we have just made till we reach the dc of Row
4.
For Part 3, we will work our regular Shell st in
the ch-2 sp of the earlier Shell st
For Part 4, we will work the 2nd leg
of our large “V” st, with the ch-7 sp and then working the sc all the way back
on this ch-7 sp.
Easy enough, right? ;)
Row 4 : (Front
of work) : dc
in the 1st 5 dc ;
*[ch 7, Shell st of Row 3, and sc in the Shell
st of Row 2 ;
Turn (and
working back on this ch-7 just made), 7 sc on the ch-7 just made] ;
Shell st in the ch-2 sp of the next Shell st
;
rep [to] once more, working in the same ch-2
sp of the same Shell st of Row 2 ;
dc in the next 5 dc* ;
rep *to* till the end. Turn.
Isn’t this just a superb pattern thus far? I love this large “V” .. so distinctive!
Row 5 : (Back
of work) : dc
in the 1st 5 dc ;
*ch 2, Shell st in the next Shell st ;
ch 2, dc
in the next 5 dc* ;
rep *to* till the end. Turn.
And that’s it.. our pattern done.
Rep Rows 4 & 5 till you have the length needed.
Now you can decide to work the whole pattern this way and then sculpt your bag out.. or you can decide to come back to the first foundation row and work shells for the other side of your bag from this row again - so that the shells face the same direction.. as usual.. decisions.. decisions.. !! :)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
