TINY KEEP-IT-SAFE BAG
Necessity is the mother of invention.. and that's just how today's project was born.
I don't know about you, but I always find that the small tiny things that we need on a daily basis are the ones that are often hard to find when you need them, especially if you put them into your handbag! How often have you spent precious minutes looking for your headphones, that are then tangled up in everything in your bag? Or how often do you try to unobtrusively smuggle a sanitary napkin wrapped in a kerchief? Or how often do you quickly try to rustle through your bag to find the paper napkin before you explode into a sneeze?
And when it is cold, and you first need to pull off your gloves, and then hunt inside a cold bag for stuff... 🤷🏻♀️
Here's a keep-it-safe tiny bag just for all these tiny important moments.
This tiny little keep-it-safe bag is a really cute Christmas gift - or a 'just-like-that' gift as well.

General yarn info : The yarn used today is not specific to this pattern.
You can use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.
If you use a thinner / more slender yarn, you will have a smaller end result.
If you use a thicker yarn, you will have a larger end result.
International yarns : Among the international yarns I have used, I’d suggest Aunt Lydia Cotton 10, Aunt Lydia Bamboo-Viscose 10, DMC Petra, Sullivans knitting cotton (Australia), Milford Soft, Hilaza Rustica Eclat , Alize cotton yarn and Alize bamboo yarn.
Skill level : Easy to Intermediate.

Pattern Instructions : (Using U.S terminology)
For today's pattern, we will make one tiny square and four tiny triangles.
The tiny triangles are fitted overlapping one another, on top of the square, in such a way that there is a small opening which makes it a tiny keep-it-safe bag.
I found it ideal for my headphones (probably not if you have the cordless ones though, as they come in a little box of their own) & face tissues.
The friend I made it for found it worked for keeping an emergency sanitary pad and also for her lipstick(s).
So how do you think this worked for you? What did you keep in it? Do let me know either here or on Facebook / Instagram. (All my handles are on the top and bottom of this blog)
We make the four triangles first. We then make the square and on the last round for the square, we will attach the triangles on.
Half Double Crochet : Hdc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (3 lps on hk) ;
yo, draw through all 3 lps. One hdc made.

Chainless start for Half Double Crochet : I dislike the ch-2 start, and this is what I do to start my row of hdc. Check out the video at https://youtu.be/lWXpl1KdbZ8
Chainless start for Double Crochet : I dislike the ch-2 / ch – 3 start, and this is what I do to start my row of dc. Check out the video at https://youtu.be/wskv3iTjRx0 dc : Double Crochet : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (3 lps on hk); [yo, draw through 2 lps] twice. One dc made. The Triangle pattern
(Make 4)
Start Row 1 : with a magic circle and work (1 dc ; 7 hdc ; 1 dc).
Pull lightly to close the circle. Do not join. Turn
Note : In the following row, wrap the starting tail in to avoid weaving it in at the end.
We are trying to make a triangle, so keep the circle closure light - so that we get a flat straight line at that end.
In the following row, let's place markers for the corner st.
Row 2 : dc + hdc in the 1st st ;
hdc in the next 3 sts ;
2 hdc + dc (Place marker) + 2 hdc in the next st ;
hdc in the last 3 sts ;
hdc + dc in the last st. Turn
Row 3 : dc + hdc in the 1st st ;
hdc in the next 6 sts ;
2 hdc + dc (Place marker) + 2 hdc in the next st ;
hdc in the last 6 sts ;
hdc + dc in the last st. Turn
Row 4 : dc + hdc in the 1st st ;
hdc in the next 9 sts ;
2 hdc + dc (Place marker) + 2 hdc in the next st ;
hdc in the last 9 sts ;
hdc + dc in the last st. Turn
Single Crochet : Sc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (2 lps on hk); yo, draw through both lps. One sc made. Check out the video at https://youtu.be/ghACqBpA-3k
First stitch for Single Crochet : This is how I like to start my row of sc. Check out the video at https://youtu.be/6pVYRfsf4_M
In this last row, we will work all three sides of our triangle.
We have been working two sides thus far, and the long side of our triangle has not been worked - and when we finish the two sides, we will turn and work along that edge to neaten that up too.
Row 5 : 3 sc in the 1st st ;
sc in the next 11 sts ;
2 sc each in the 3 sts ;
sc in the next 11 sts ;
3 sc in the last st ;
Turn and worked the last side [the long side of your triangle] ;
(work 2 sc in each horizontal bar of the dc st) ;
rep (to) 3 times ;
2 sts in the centre sp [the joint space of the 1st magic circle] ;
rep (to) 4 times ;
and join to the 1st st with a sl-st.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
One triangle made. Make 3 more triangles with this same pattern.
You now have four triangles made.
Flatten your triangle and place markers in all 3 ends for convenience.
We will be joining our 4 triangles using the markers and I found it convenient to keep them marked.
There are a load of markers, but eventually we will only have 4 and remove all the extras.
Let's make one square.
Start Round 1 : with a magic circle and work 10 hdc in it.
Pull lightly to close.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.
Round 2 : 2 hdc in the 1st st and in each st all around.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.
Round 3 : hdc in the 1st 4 sts ;
(2 hdc + dc [Place marker] + 2 hdc) all in the next st ;
*hdc in the next 4 sts ;
rep (to) once* ;
rep *to* all around.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.
Round 4 : hdc in the 1st st and each st till marker ;
(2 hdc + dc [Place marker] + 2 hdc) all in the next st ;
*hdc in each st till the marked st ;
rep (to) once* ;
rep *to* all around.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.
Round 5 : hdc in the 1st st and each st till marker ;
(2 hdc + dc [Place marker] + 2 hdc) all in the marked st ;
*hdc in each st till the marked st ;
rep (to) once* ;
rep *to* all around.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.
Round 6 : Rep Round 5.
Do not cut thread
Sl-st all the way back to the corner marked st.
I now suggest that after you make all 4 triangles and the square, you iron it flat or flatten it properly so that the sides are flat and aligned.
This just makes it easier to attach, so it's not a rule, just a suggestion.
Now place the square down with the wrong side facing up.
We will then place the four triangles with the right side facing up on top of the square.
1st triangle - remove triangle markers and attach to the square markers.
2nd triangle - Again remove triangle markers and attach to the square markers.
Remember corner will have 4 pieces of work
4th triangle : Place on left hand side overlapping 3rd triangle.
It then needs to go under the 1st triangle right hand side corner.
So push it under the 1st triangle - i.e. right next to square
flip down left hand side corner & pin
Use on of the joining methods below to join the square with the triangles.
I have used the single crochet to join method. See what works for you.
Once all in place, place markers and pin the sides for ease of joining.
Remember that the corners will be 4 pieces and the sides are all 3 pieces of work.
I suggest you work 1 sc in each st but 2 sc in each corner st for ease of turning.
and now the messy ear phones....
are neatly packed and safely untangled
add a small loop in one corner if you wish
Before you finish off that last stitch, read the note below
Note : You may want to add a small loop at the corner that you finish at, just so that you can (a) hang it to the corner of your bag for easy retrieval or (b) just find it easily with that loop
In case you decide to do this then work the last sc in the corner (remember we're working 2 sc in each corner, and you just started with 1 sc) and then work a small chain of say 8 - 10 ch (depending on the length you want), and then work a sl-st in that 1st st. Voila! Loop ready & your tiny keep-it-safe bag ready to use.
It holds 2 lipsticks
as well as an emergency sanitary pad
