A crochet kitty hammock is similar to making a crochet baby hammock - for both you need to ensure that you use a super soft yarn and one that has spring but not too many holes and we're good to go. Thank you for joining me.
In case you have just joined me, know that you can access all of my earlier creations by checking under ‘categories’ on the right hand side of this blog under “Labels”.
How labels work : All patterns under a similar label can be found together so when you click on the label for say "crochet baby dress pattern", all my baby dress patterns are available - so scroll down to the very bottom and click on "Older Posts" to move onto the next post in the series. Before you reach that you have several other ways to find my blogs including blog links at the bottom of this blog For your convenience, follow me here or on Facebook, You Tube, Pinterest, Twitter or Instagram. Oh, and may I add that the fastest way to find any of my blogs is via Pinterest and if you are looking for more children wear then come here All my blogs can be printed. Find theprint friendly (green) link on the right of this blog. You can also hit Control P (or Command P for Mac) on your keyboard, and the blog will go directly to the connected printer. Remember that you only print if absolutely essential. Save paper – Save Our Earth.

I needed to do a small bit of research before I made my first kitty hammock. I learned that a medium sized cat is about 18" from nose to tail.
So a length of about 23-25" with a width of 13-15" is what you'd need for a hammock.
I decided to make a rectangle which was about 17" x 19" and then reduced along the 19" side to get a triangle effect. Finally add in some loops (as we're working the triangular shape for the sides) and we're good to go.
You do not need the same specific yarn that I've used. Use any yarn with a suitable hook. My yarn was chosen by my client.
Single Crochet : Sc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (2 lps on hk); yo, draw through both lps. One sc made. Check out the video at https://youtu.be/ghACqBpA-3k
First stitch for Single Crochet : This is how I like to start my row of sc. Check out the video at https://youtu.be/6pVYRfsf4_M
For the whole pattern we will use a Shell Stitch which is (e-sc ; ch 1, esc) all in the same st or ch-sp
Row 2 : e-sc in the 1st fsc ;
sk next fsc ; Shell St in the next fsc ;
(sk next 2 fsc, Shell St in the next fsc) ;
rep (to) till the last st ;
e-sc in the last fsc. Turn
From now on, you will work the Shell St in the ch-1 sp of the previous Shell St
Row 3 : e-sc in the 1st st ;
Shell st in the 1st ch-1 sp and in each ch-1 sp till the last st ;
e-sc in the last st. Turn
Rep Row 3 till you get the size you want for your little hammock.
Like I said before, I worked till I had a length of 19".
I have then reduced along the sides to get a slight shape for my hammock
Half double crochet 2-tog : hdc 2-tog : [yo, insert hk in st or ch-sp, yo and pull up a lp] (3 lps on hk) ; insert hk in st or ch-sp, yo and pull up a lp (4 lps on hk) ; yo, draw through all 4 lps on hk. One hdc 2-tog made.
Loop Row 2 : sl-st into the centre of the 1st ch-11 sp ;
sc in the same 1st ch-11 sp ;
(ch 11, sc in the next ch-11 sp) ;
rep (to) till the end. Turn
Rep Loop Row 2 two more times, till you have one ch-11 sp left.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
We hang our hammock using that last ch-11 sp.
Re-attach yarn at the other end and rep from Decrease Row 1 till the loops are done for this end as well.
