PART 1 : Make the tiny little snuggle blanket
You can choose any granny square pattern but here's what I've done
I've used (Indian) Vardhman millennium DK ply yarn with a 3.5 mm crochet hook

Double Crochet : dc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (3 lps on hk);

[yo, draw through 2 lps] twice.  One dc made.

Chainless start for Double Crochet : I dislike the ch-2 / ch – 3 start, and this is what I do to start my row of dc.

Start Round 1 : with a magic circle and work 12 dc in it ;
Join to the 1st st with a sl-st.

Round 2 :  2 dc in the 1st dc ;
(ch 1, 2 dc in the next dc) ;
rep (to) all around ;
ch 1, and join to the 1st st with a sl-st.

Round 3 :  sl-st into the 1st ch-1 sp
3 dc in the 1st ch-1 sp ;
(ch 1, 2 dc in the next ch-1 sp) ;
rep (to) all around ;
ch 1, and join to the 1st st with a sl-st.

From now on we will work a Shell Stitch which is (2 dc ; ch 1, 2 dc)
Round 4 :  sl-st into the 1st ch-1 sp
Shell Stitch in the 1st ch-1 sp ;
*ch 1, Shell Stitch in the next ch-1 sp* ;
rep *to* all around ;
ch 1, and join to the 1st st with a sl-st.

We will now work our Shell stitches in the ch-1 sp of the earlier Shell stitch.
Round 5 :  sl-st into the 1st ch-1 sp of the Shell stitch ;
Shell stitch in the ch-sp of the same 1st Shell stitch ;
*ch 1, Shell stitch in the next ch-1 Shell stitch sp* ;
rep *to* all around ;
ch 1, and join to the 1st st with a sl-st.

Rep Round 5 till you get the size you want for your little lovey.
Note : Read Optional round below

Now if you are using a multi colored yarn, you're good to go - but otherwise, look at these video tutorials on how to work with multiple colored yarns for a beautiful checkered effect.

Once you finish the granny square, fasten off and weave in ends.

Move on to Part 2

stitch pattern detail

You could end with Round 5 all the way to the end but if you find that your work is bunching up, then for the last few rounds, you could add a small increase as follows

Optional rounds : sl-st into the 1st ch-1 sp of the Shell stitch ;

(3 dc ; ch 1, 3 dc) all in the ch-sp of the same 1st Shell stitch ;
*ch 1, rep (to) in the next ch-1 Shell stitch sp* ;
rep *to* all around ;
ch 1, and join to the 1st st with a sl-st.

For all rounds after this, you will work

(3 dc ; ch 1, 3 dc) all in the ch-sp of the sts.

I worked the last 3 rounds in this pattern (with 3 dc I mean)

PART 2 : Make the stuff toy
With stuff toys, it is preferable to work in spirals without joining.  Instead of using a marker, I prefer to add a contrast thread / yarn for the last/first stitch
working in spirals with yarn marker
This works for me.. Use whatever route that suits you to mark rounds and work in spirals.
I also prefer to use a stocking net ball for all my stuff toys.  So I fill my poly-fill into a bit of stocking net and secure that in (sew ends). I have then stuffed  my little kitty toy. This ensures that little bits of fluff don't come out of the small openings and go trouble the baby.

FINISHING : Put them all together
Once you have finished the stuff toy, all you need to do is attach it neatly to the centre of your lovey. You could choose to keep it at one corner as well. Then you take lovely photos of the child you have made this for and post it on social media.. remember to show me your work as well - I'm on FB and all my social media handles are right here at the top & bottom of this blog.
