RABBIT EARED JACKET

   Rabbit Eared Jacket - a free crochet pattern info from Sweet Nothings Crochet

This rabbit eared jacket is a really cute lil creation, isn't it? The pattern for the jacket is pretty simple and the rabbit ears just add a little naughtiness that I totally loved.

This is not my pattern.   The link for the pattern is given below the photos.
I tweaked the pattern a little bit, so here are my tweaks.
If you are not interested in any tweak, scroll down a bit for the pattern instruction link

The pattern is worked top down - which means that the first row / round of stitches that you start with go around the neck
Body pattern detailsleeve detail
For the ears this is what I did :
First you work the inside of the ear in white.
Then we work the outside of the ear in grey.
So work the same pattern in whiter first followed by grey and then we attach the two together

We make the exact same pattern in white and grey

After you have made both white and grey, run one round of sc all around to hold the two pieces together.
It does not matter how many stitches you work all around.  Ensure that you work the same number on both sides and 3 sc on the top and bottom for easy turning.
I'd suggest you make a note of the number of sts you work around one ear and work same for the other ear.

In case you want a longer ear, rep Row 9-10 as many times as you want till you get the length, and then decrease.

Ensure that you keep a tail at the end of the grey part for attachment.

Half Double Crochet : Hdc :  yo, insert hk into st ; yo (3 lps on hk) ;

yo, draw through all 3 lps.  One hdc made.

Check out the video at https://youtu.be/sDiELJdB2Dg

Chainless start for Half Double Crochet : I dislike the ch-2 start, and this is what I do to start my row of hdc. Check out the video at https://youtu.be/lWXpl1KdbZ8
Start Row 1 : with a magic circle and work 3 hdc in it.  Turn
Pull lightly but do not join

Row 2 : 2 hdc in the 1st hdc ;
hdc in the next hdc ;
2 hdc in the last hdc.  Turn (5 hdc)

Row 3 : hdc in the 1st hdc ;
& in each hdc till end.  Turn (5 hdc)

Row 4 : hdc in the 1st 2 hdc ;
2 hdc in the next hdc ;
hdc in the last 2 dc.  Turn (6 hdc)

Rows 5 - 6 : hdc in the 1st hdc ;
& in each hdc till end.  Turn (6 hdc)

Row 7 : hdc in the 1st 3 hdc ;
2 hdc in the next hdc ;
hdc in the last 2 hdc.  Turn (7 hdc)

Row 8 : hdc in the 1st 3 hdc ;
2 hdc in the next hdc ;
hdc in the last 3 hdc.  Turn (8 hdc)

Rows 9 - 10 : hdc in the 1st hdc ;
& in each hdc till end.  Turn (8 hdc)

Row 11 : hdc in the 1st 3 hdc ;
hdc 2-tog over the next 2 hdc ;
hdc in the last 3 hdc.  Turn (7 hdc)

Row 12 : hdc in the 1st 2 hdc ;
hdc 2-tog over the next 2 hdc ;
hdc in the last 3 hdc.  Turn (6 hdc)

Row 13 : hdc 2-tog over the 1st 2 hdc ;
hdc 2-tog over the next 2 hdc ;
hdc 2-tog over the last 2 hdc.  Turn (3 hdc)

Row 14 : hdc 3-tog over all 3 hdc
Fasten off and weave in ends (after the white, but not after grey)

When done with grey, place white and grey together, and run a round of sc all around the sides, joining the 2 pcs. Attach with grey yarn, with the white side facing you.

When finished, keep a long tail for attachment onto the hoodie of your project.

Use one of these methods to join

Before you go off to the pattern I used (the 2nd link below), I thought I'd add a little clarification.

Not sure about you, but I always like to figure out where I'm headed with the pattern - so here's a quick visual

Foundation Single Crochet : fsc : https://youtu.be/mcT85fwh4mA

How to turn a foundation Single Crochet row into a round :

https://youtu.be/DwkKgtGaJMY

We start with chain (or fsc like I did) and work around to double the stitches - but we do not join at the end (as shown in the video) as we're not making a round.
We are working the back of the hood to start - we then work side to side in rows to build the hood, ending at the top edge of the (neck) body of the jacket.

We then work side to side to grow the body of the jacket.

Row 2 on, we start increasing sts (with a ch-1 sp, which you must remember not to work any sts in).  This increase is for the top of the sleeve, the ch-sps being the stretch spaces for the curve of the shoulder / armhole ease.

In Row 11, we skip all the sts for the sleeve and we'll get the armhole opening.

We then work only for the body portion, side to side till we have the length complete.

We finally work the sleeves separately and join them in.

I found this chart that really helped me get my measurements right
