Instructions : (Using U.S terminology)
Please note that I start all my rows with a ch 1, turning chain for ease.
Please check the top of this blog for easy video tutorials on all stitches used in today's pattern.
Please read through all my notes before you pick up your hook, so you know just where we're heading in our pattern.
In my patterns I work with the principle of stitch count and body measurement.
This means that you need to work the stitch count in pattern, till you get the measurement (length and/or width) that you need for your project.

I start all my rounds / rows with a ch 1 turning chain for ease.
Do check the top of this blog for video tutorials of all the stitches used in today’s pattern.

I have used an 8-ply yarn with a 54mm crochet hook.  The end result is soft and chunky and just right for a baby.

So what did I differently?
Not very much.
I like my foundation single crochet sart, so I  used that to start.
Foundation Single Crochet : fsc :  https://youtu.be/mcT85fwh4mA

I also start my hdc rows in a slightly different way

Half Double Crochet : Hdc :  yo, insert hk into st ; yo (3 lps on hk) ;

yo, draw through all 3 lps.  One hdc made.

Check out the video at https://youtu.be/sDiELJdB2Dg

Chainless start for Half Double Crochet : I dislike the ch-2 start, and this is what I do to start my row of hdc. Check out the video at https://youtu.be/lWXpl1KdbZ8

Finally I joined along the back on Row 8.  I thought that bit was a bit unclear.
We're asked to sl-st to the first hdc on Row 5 - which I didn't understand as joining for the skirt portion and then working in Rounds.
Anyway, I worked the skirt portion of the dress in Rounds after Row 8.

I also like to make a little 'button placket'.  So I have added a small section (that slips under the right side of the opening of the dress for button attachment.

I thought of adding picots along the neckline, but my yarn was way too thick - but here's an idea of how to do that if you are working with a slightly thinner yarn

HEADBAND :
The matching headband for the Marigold Baby Dress
This is the simplest headband ever..
You just need two things :
a) Head size (and refer to the charts below if needed)
b) How to work the foundation double crochet stitch (fdc)
Here is a sizing chart for general head sizing :

Foundation double crochet (fdc) : This is a unique way of starting a project directly with a row of double crochet stitches.  Here is an easy video tutorial https://youtu.be/hjNUYVvyU9k

What to do : Work one round of fdc for the head circumference of the baby. Keep the fdc chain flat and join the two ends neatly.

What to remember : Remember the stretch of your yarn and remember that yarn stretches more after use - so give it a little tug when you measure the length / circumference of your headband

Finishing : Thread a lovely satin ribbon through every alternate stitch and leave a length to be tied into a bow. This is a good idea especially if you are making this for a baby so that it stays snug and also looks so darn cute.

Go ahead and create something cute.

And this is one enchanting dress & headband all ready to go.
I had a really fun creative day and I do hope you do too.
