STRAWBERRY CROP TOP

Strawberry Crop Top - a free crochet pattern from Sweet Nothings Crochet

STRAWBERRY CROP TOP
A simple chevron-like pattern is the key to this cute little Strawberry Crop  Top.
This combination of light and dark pink yarns, made in really soft cotton, brings out the best in this easy pattern.

Materials used : Today I’ve used 2 balls (about 100 gms in total) of two colors of unbranded knitting cotton with a 4.5 mm crochet hook
Note : Amount of yarn needed for individual project(s) depends on size of yarn / hook, size you are making it for as well as the tension with which you work.  Amount given here is only for rough estimation for the size I’ve made it for.

For Indians : The yarn I’ve used is similar in thickness to our Laura knitting cotton.  Our lovely Indian Anchor knitting cotton , Red rose or White rose knitting cotton yarns are a good substitute.  I’d also suggest Alize cotton yarn

For Non-Indians : This yarn is similar in thickness to Lily Sugar n Cream cotton yarn. The other international yarns I’ve used of this thickness are Milford Satin knitting cotton, DMC Petra knitting cotton & Aunt Lydia Bamboo Viscose 10 knitting cottons.

You can use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.

Size made : 34” (M/L)
You can make this project to any size.  Size here given only for rough estimation of yarn.

Please note that I start all my rows with a ch 1, turning chain for ease.
Please check the top of this blog for easy video tutorials on all stitches used in today's pattern.
Please read through all my notes before you pick up your hook, so you know just where we're heading in our pattern.
In my patterns I work with the principle of stitch count and body measurement.  This means that you need to work the stitch count in pattern, till you get the measurement (length and/or width) that you need for your project.

For today's lovely crop top I was inspired by the pattern at at https://www.snowflakecrochets.com/crochet-speedway-crop-top-pattern/

I decided to work in all dc through the top & change colors every 2 rows (the designer has worked 2 rows of dc and 2 rows of sc per color)
So I got a a slighter "V" shape (or maybe because of the thickness of my yarn 🤨🤔?)
I did not bother with making a flat edge for my work as I really loved this "V" finish.

I did go back and work the top with the dc 3-tog decrease for the top bit.
For the sides, 3 dc in each st did not work for me (again probably due to my loose tension hold as well as yarn thickness 🤨🤔? ) so I worked a dc 3-tog in each horizontal bar of dc all the way down the sides, with a ch 1 sp in between.

In each corner, I worked a ch 3-tog ; ch 2, dc 3-tog in the same corner st for ease of turning.
Along the bottom border (where we are working in the dc sts) ; I only skipped one stitch in between the dc 3-tog sets (so dc 3-tog ; ch 1, sk next dc ; dc 3-tog in the next dc).  Work this till the next end, where once again we work (dc 3-tog ; ch 2, dc 3-tog) in the same corner st.

I worked, as you can see, 1 round with each color for this border (just like the designer has)

For the ties :
I worked the tie with the 2nd color & I worked a long (nearly 15" as suggested by designer) chain.  So I attached the 2nd color & started my chain , then worked sl-st all the way back to the 1st ch ; and then worked a dc 3-tog in the 1st st.
I then worked dc 3-tog all along the side.
In the corner ch-2 sp I worked (dc 3-tog ; ch 2, dc 3-tog) in that corner ch-2 sp ;  worked the chain (same like he 1st one) ; and then when I was back at the corner ch-2 sp, I worked ch 1 and dc 3-tog in the same ch-2 corner sp.
Continue working dc 3-tog in each dc 3-tog from the previous row till the next corner ch-2 sp and rep what you did at the 1st corner sp

When I reached the last corner, I once again worked the chains and sl-st all the way back, and then attached and fastened off in the same corner stitch.
Ensure that you weave in all ends neatly and use fabric glue to seal in ends
