SPRING STROLLEY BLANKET

Full view of the Spring Blanket - a free crochet pattern from Sweet Nothings Crochet

SPRING STROLLEY BLANKET
The pattern on the Spring Strolley blanket looks like the stitch is jumping between rows - there's a ripple movement - it looks like a light footed baby springing between the rows of color .. or is my imagination just running riot?
Well, its imagination that gives creativity a run for its money - so I'm just going to enjoy this ride.

Come along then and let’s work on this beautiful creation together.

Materials used : Today I’ve used ~ 1 ball of Ganga Crypto Cakes acrylic yarn with a 4.5 mm crochet hook ; embroidery needle & fabric glue to seal ends
This yarn is not specific for this project.
You can use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.
For Indians : You could use Anchor , Red ros ; Red rose metallic ; Laura or unbranded  knitting cotton as well as Vardhaman acrylic yarns
International yarns :  Among the international yarns I have used, I’d suggest Aunt Lydia Cotton 10, Aunt Lydia Bamboo-Viscose 10, DMC Petra, Sullivans knitting cotton (Australia), Milford Soft, Hilaza Rustica Eclat , Alize cotton yarn and Alize bamboo yarn.

Size made : 30" x 36” for stroller
This is only given to you to get a general idea of how much yarn you may need.
You can make this to any size to just use up your yarn.
Difficulty level : Intermediate Skill level.

Stitches used :

Stitch & Pattern detail for Spring Strolley Blanket
Instructions : (Using U.S terminology)
Please note that I start all my rows with a ch 1, turning chain for ease.
Please check the top of this blog for easy video tutorials on all stitches used in today's pattern.
Please read through all my notes before you pick up your hook, so you know just where we're heading in our pattern.
In my patterns I work with the principle of stitch count and body measurement.
This means that you need to work the stitch count in pattern, till you get the measurement (length and/or width) that you need for your project.

What do you need to know for today's project
What is a chain stitch ?

Double Crochet : dc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (3 lps on hk); [yo, draw through 2 lps] twice.  One dc made.  Check out the video at https://youtu.be/xdnjB27zpYo
Chainless start for Double Crochet : I dislike the ch-2 / ch – 3 start, and this is what I do to start my row of dc.

The beauty of today's yarn is that it is a gorgeous multi coloured / self striping yarn and the pattern just worked automatically.
The original pattern by Moogly requires a change of yarn every few rows, but with this yarn just worked my first row till the end of one color (change of color) and it magically worked itself out. 😄

Finishing ideas :
I decided on a contrast border and have used an off-white acrylic yarn with a 4 mm crochet hook.
To start I ran one round of sc all around, with (2 sc ; ch 2, 2 sc) in the corners.

I worked the shell pattern only on two sides ; and on the other two sides I've left it with just a sc finish
I ensured that I had stitches in multiples of 3 in each side that I was working te shell border.
I also ensured that the two parallel sides had the same number of stitches.

For the shell pattern :
Sc in the 1st st ;
(sk next 2 sts, 6 dc in the next st ; sk next 2 dc , sc in the next st) ;
rep (to) till end.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

If you decide to work the shell pattern on all four sides :
Sc in the 1st st ;
(sk next 2 sts, 6 dc in the next st ; sk next 2 dc , sc in the next st) ;
*rep (to) till corner ch-sp ; [3 dc ; ch 1, 3 dc all in the corner ch-sp] ;
sk next 2 sts, sc in the next st ;
rep (to) till next corner*
rep *to* till end.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

It is sad that though my blogs are very popular and being used by so many, not many think of giving credit when you post your projects on social media.
There is a lot of work that goes into writing one of these patterns, so do pay it forward – good karma and all that blah
