KITTY CAT EXTRAVAGANZA – 3 - A Cat Bookmark or car hanging

Free crochet pattern info from Sweet Nothings Crochetcrochet cat bookmark
In this blog, I have made a whole load of crochet kitty cat things.. i.e things all cat inspired.
I have used as many free patterns as I could find, and if I found a chart, then I’ve worked the chart and written my notes down.

I have a long list of things kitty cat that I plan on making, so I am very confidently putting this blog down as “3”, and check out my earlier blogs on kitty cat extravaganzas here , here and here.

Thanks for joining me, once again, in our celebration of the naughty four-legged kitty cat.

In case you have just joined me, know that you can access all of my earlier creations by checking under ‘categories’ on the right hand side of this blog under “Labels”.  Then, for your convenience, follow me here or on Facebook, You Tube, Pinterest, Twitter or Instagram.

Oh, and may I add that the fastest way to find any of my blogs is via Pinterest.

All my blogs can be printed.  Find the printer friendly (green) link on the right side of this blog.  You can also hit Control P (or Command P for Mac) on your keyboard, and the blog will go directly to the connected printer.

Remember that you only print if absolutely essential.  Save paper – Save Our Earth.

Do remember to add my blog URL when you make and show off your creation.

Just copy the link on the search bar above - that's the blog URL.

To purchase this or similar yarn online, click the highlighted links below to buy your yarns online via Amazon.  While you will still pay the same, I may get paid by Amazon as well.

This is a free blog - so do pay it forward for me.  Cheers.

Materials used : Today I’ve used our Indian Anchor knitting cotton, with a 1.75 mm crochet hook
You also need fabric glue ; embroidery needle ; beads, pearls and a small ring or metal bangle (I've used 5” diameter) if making this a hanging toy  ;
Mod Podge or Fevicol to stiffen project
In general : Use any yarn with a suitable hook to make these projects. The finer the yarn, the tinier the project.
For Indians : You can use Red rose , 4-ply knitting cotton , or unbranded knitting cotton or White Rose or bamboo knitting cotton , Milk cotton ; Silk yarns as well
International yarns :  Among the international yarns I have used in this thickness, I’d suggest Aunt Lydia Cotton 10, Aunt Lydia Bamboo-Viscose 10, DMC Petra, Sullivans knitting cotton (Australia), Milford Soft, Hilaza Rustica Eclat , Alize cotton yarn and Alize bamboo yarn , Lily Sugar n' Cream cotton yarn

Please read through all my notes before you pick up your hook, so you know just where we're heading in our pattern.
In my patterns I work with the principle of stitch count and body measurement.
This means that you need to work the stitch count in pattern, till you get the measurement (length and/or width) that you need for your project.

For this little kitty cat project, I worked with this free pattern here
There are three cute kitty cats to make and choose from.

Once I had my little kitty cat made, I thought I’d see if it looked cute as a hanging (car) ornament too.. silly of me to wonder if it would.. OF COURSE it does!

My cat
So here I have crocheted around a small aluminium ring (you can use an old bangle as well) and then I attached the kitty cat to one end of it, and added a hanging chain length to the other end.  The little frilly bit on the end was just for a little more pizazz and oomph.

Doesn’t it look like little kitty cat is having a lot of fun swinging in his little swing?

It would be ideal to block the little cat motif if you are using it as a decoration in the ring or bangle.

Blocking ideas :
I would suggest that you block your project, especially if you’ve used a cotton yarn.  First lightly iron it (using a light muslin cloth as a cover between the iron and your work – i.e do not iron directly on the work).  This stretches and flattens down your work.
Use a white glue (Mod Podge or Indian Fevicol MR) as a stiffener.  I use 1 part glue to 2 parts water and make a light paste, and then I lightly apply this over the back of my work using a paint brush.  Allow to flat dry before gifting or using it as your decoration.

And remember this is the blog that you read all this inspiration.. so do share my blog URL or blog link. Thank you
