Towel ring holders or toppers are really fun projects and they’ve been on my list of thing to do for a while. After yesterday’s slightly complicated owl towel ring holder / topper, let's work on a beaded one today.
Thank you for joining me.

Materials used :Today I’ve used some polyester silk purse yarn with a 4 mm crochet hook and a ring. For the ring, I’ve used a bangle. I’ve used a total of 10 beads , but use as many as you’d like – let your creativity fly
You can make this creation, if now during lockdown, you do not have beads but still want to make this today. Please read through the pattern sheet so see how.
Please note that I start all rows with a ch 1 turning chain for ease.
Please also check the top of this blog for neat video tutorials of all stitches used in today’s pattern sheet.
Please go through the full instruction sheet before you start, so you get an idea of what we’re doing. There is an option for the ending which you may miss out on if you do not read through. Cheers.
Before we start, add your beads onto your yarn if they are small. I used large beads that went through my yarn and hook and I could add them in at the last moment a well.
Single Crochet : Sc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (2 lps on hk); yo, draw through both lps. One sc made. Check out the video at https://youtu.be/ghACqBpA-3k
First stitch for Single Crochet : This is how I like to start my row of sc. Check out the video at https://youtu.be/6pVYRfsf4_M
We start directly working on the ring and work two rounds around it.
We need to ensure that we cover the ring completely and work in multiples of 3
Start Round 1 :with as many sc as needed in multiples of 3 to cover the ring.
Chainless start for Half Double Crochet : I dislike the ch-2 start, and this is what I do to start my row of hdc. Check out the video at https://youtu.be/lWXpl1KdbZ8
Round 2 :sc in the 1st sc ;
(ch 3, sk next sc, sc in the next sc) ;
rep (to) all around till the last 2 sts ;
ch 1 + hdc and join to the 1st st.
This ensures that you are in the centre of the last ch-3 sp.
In case you find this difficult, please work ch 3 and join to the 1st st with a sl-st.
Then ensure that you sl-st into the 1st ch-3 sp to start the next round of pattern.
Round 3 :sc in the 1st ch-3 sp ;
(ch 3, sc in the next ch-3 sp) ; rep (to) all around ;
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.
In my last round I have added beads in the 1st 5 ch-sps and then as I came around, I counted off the last 3 (where I did not add beads) and then the next 5 (where I did add beads).
Please look at my photograph to fully understand how easy this is.
You can add beads in all 13 sps (i.e. 5 start , 5 end and 3 in the centre as well).
Round 4 : Adding beads : Please check video above
sc in the 1st ch-3 sp ;
*(ch 1 + add bead + ch 1, and sc in the next ch-3 sp) ;
rep (to) in the next 4 ch-3 sps ;
[ch 1, sc in the next ch-3 sp] ;
Rep [to] till the last 8 ch-3 sp ;
rep (to) in the next 5 ch-3 sps ;
rep [to] in the last 3 ch-sps* ;
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.
Once done, do not fasten off. Please scroll down to finishing.
Before we go to finishing, here are a few ideas.
In case you do not have a bead that goes through your yarn, you could work a picot stitch instead of the bead.
You could work a picot stitch all around as well.
And if you have beads and want to work a picot as well, use your beads for the first and last few ch-sps and work a picot stitch in each ch-sp all around.
Each difference will give you a different end result.
How to work a picot stitch : Traditionally for a ch-3 picot, you work (ch 3, sl-st in 3rd ch from hook). For a ch-5 picot, you will do (ch 5, sl-st in 5th ch from hook).
Once done, with Round 4 around the ring / bangle, you need to add the hanging tie
For this bit, I have just worked a length of chain.
So work as many chain as you think you need (to hang your towel topper onto the nail on your kitchen / bathroom wall), and sk the centre 3 picot sts on your bangle / ring, and sl-st into the next st (with the bead in it).
I felt that working this holding chain thus, will ensure that the towel will hang evenly.
Please use the photograph as a guide.
Before you fasten off, please hold your creation up with the ring or centre of chain and see that it holds.
Secure your towel holder onto the wall and hang your towel through and smile. This is a beautiful project – one that can not only be made in several colors, but using any yarn and any hook that’s suitable for that yarn.
