ROUND UP OF RECTANGULAR CROCHET TABLECOVERS

ROUND UP OF RECTANGULAR CROCHET TABLE COVERS

A few days back I got a message asking if I had any square or rectangle crochet table covers in my repertoire of patterns. I don’t.

I have one that is rectangular-ish with Irish crochet (link given below) and that got me thinking that I should check this out.

Usually for a square or rectangle piece, one would use filet crochet or maybe work a granny square pattern and then join it to make a larger piece.

And this sent me off a-hunting on the web..and I am thrilled that there are a few patterns that I could see myself doing.

While I have not done any of this, I thought I’d just make a round up of them for my future use.. Always good to keep things in a handy place, and what is handier than my blog.

In case you have just joined me, know that you can access all of my earlier creations by checking under ‘categories’ on the right hand side of this blog under “Labels”.  Then, for your convenience, follow me here or on Facebook, You Tube, Pinterest, Twitter or Instagram.

Materials you could use :

General yarn info : For this project, the thicker the yarn the faster your work will proceed but the thinner your yarn, the lacier and lighter your work.

Let’s look at a few patterns.

All photos below are those of the designers and not mine.

Join motifs to make a table runner :

Make a few small motifs, join them together and get this gorgeous runner

Get this from Yarnspirations at https://www.yarnspirations.com/red-heart-snowflake-table-runner/RHC0537-023166M.html

I you're using this method, I'd say join as you go - and here's a video tutorial link at the top of this blog

Filet crochet :

This gorgeous piece needs patience.  It is also a fixed size if you are going to do the whole thing.
Unlike with motifs where you can decide how long or wide you want it, with this piece, you just have to do the whole thing.
But it’s gorgeous, isn’t it.

And if you like pineapples then this one will surely tempt you https://magicandcrochethook.wordpress.com/2015/03/25/wzor-na-bieznik-z-ananasami-dookola/amp/

Three lovely granny square ideas to make a table cloth or tray cover

This crochet tray mat from Fave Crafts is another lovely one that you can make to whatever size you want. Make the small motifs, calculate the size of one motif and then decide how many you need to cover your table.

Get this at https://www.favecrafts.com/Kitchen-Crochet/Crochet-Tray-Mat-Pattern/ct/1

Once again I'd suggest you use the join as you go method to join the motifs for a neat finish

.... and if you can read charts .. make a few of these squares and you've got a neat table cloth or runner

And here’s a lovely vintage pattern at https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/square-a-day-tablecloth-7067 or https://freevintagecrochet.com/tablecloth-patterns/spool95/7067-square-a-day-tablecloth-pattern
