There was a similar pattern I saw on somewhere online, and this has a chart with it. As I work on my ear ring, here are my notes. Here is the inspirational photograph

Materials used : Today I’ve used the lovely Indian Anchor cotton (No 20) yarn for the ear ring with a 1.75 mm crochet hook ; ready-made ear ring hooks (one pair minimum) ; beads, if needed ; glue to seal ends.

For Indians : You could use Red ros e or unbranded knitting cotton as well

General yarn info : The yarn used today is not specific to this pattern.

You can use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.

International yarns : Among the international yarns I have used in this thickness, I’d suggest Aunt Lydia Cotton 10, Aunt Lydia Bamboo-Viscose 10, DMC Petra, Sullivans knitting cotton (Australia), Milford Soft, Hilaza Rustica Eclat , Alize cotton yarn and Alize bamboo yarn.

Skill level : Intermediate

Abbreviations used : (Using U.S terminology)

Instructions using U.S terminology

Please note that I start all my rows with a ch 1, turning chain for ease.

Please read through all my notes before you pick up your hook, so you know just where we're heading in our pattern.

In my patterns I work with the principle of stitch count and body measurement.

This means that you need to work the stitch count in pattern, till you get the measurement (length and/or width) that you need for your project.

We will start with the little loop that hangs off the ear ring, so let’s get started. Attach your yarn in the loop of your ear ring.

Start with 5 sc in the loop of your ear ring. Turn

Row 1 : 2 sc in the 1^st sc and in each sc till end. Turn. (10 sc)

Row 2 : sl-st into 1^st 4 sc ; 3 dc in the next dc ; ch 2, 3 dc in the next dc. Turn.

Row 3 : dc in the 1^st dc ; sk next 3 dc , 2 dc in the next ch-2 sp ;

(ch 1, 2 dc in the same ch-2 sp) ;

rep (to) once ; sk next 2 dc ; dc in the last dc. Turn.

We will use a shell stitch from here on which will be

(2 dc ; ch 1, 2 dc) all in the same st or ch-sp.

Row 4 : dc in the 1^st dc ;

(sk next 2 dc , Shell st in the next ch-1 sp) ;

ch 2, rep (to) once ; sk next 2 dc, dc in the last dc. Turn.

Row 5 : dc in the 1^st dc ;

(sk next 2 dc , Shell st in the next ch-1 sp) ; ch 1, 8 dc in the next ch-2 sp ; ch 1, rep (to) once ; sk next 2 dc, dc in the last dc. Turn.

Row 6 : dc in the 1^st dc ; (sk next 2 dc , Shell st in the next ch-1 sp) ;

sk next 2 dc, [ch 1, dc in the next dc] ;

rep [to] 7 times ;

ch 1, rep (to) once ; sk next 2 dc, dc in the last dc. Turn.

Note : Before we go any further, please check the start and end pattern information for Rows 7 and 8, and decide what you wish to do. You could do the start/end of Row 7 all through, or Row 8 all through, or do a combination, like the chart shows.

Personally, I feel that the sl-st past the sts and figuring out which st to miss etc is a lot of work for a beginner – so I am going to write the instructions only once as charted, and then am going to write it the easier way which in my mind is the start and end of Row No 8

Row 7 : sl-st past the 1^st 2 dc and into the ch-1 sp of the 1^st Shell st ;

Shell st in the same 1^st ch-1 sp ;

ch 3, sk next 3 dc and ch-1 sp, sc in the next ch-1 sp ;

(ch 3, sc in the next ch-1 sp) ;

rep (to) 5 times ; ch 3, sk next 3 dc and ch-1 sp, Shell st in the ch-1 sp of the last Shell st. Turn.

Row 8 : dc in the 1^st dc ;

Shell st in the 1^st Shell st ; ch 3, sk next ch-3 sp, sc in the next ch-3 sp ;

(ch 3, sc in the next ch-3 sp) ;

rep (to) 4 times ;
