In this pattern I've gone a little beyond the original chart and have created a slightly larger doily - like I said just imagine it and then do it and be amazed!
In case you have just joined me, know that you can access all of my earlier creations by checking under ‘categories’ on the right hand side of this blog under “Labels”. Then, for your convenience, follow me here or on Facebook, You Tube, Pinterest, Twitter or Instagram.

Right then, off we go.
Magic circle : https://youtu.be/ISC39yOqWro
Round 1 : Start with a magic circle and work 1 dc in it ;
(ch 2, dc in the same magic circle) ;
rep (to) 6 times ;
ch 2 and join with a sl-st to the 1st st.
Round 2 : dc in the 1st dc ;
(3 dc in the ch-2 sp ;
dc in the next dc) ;
rep (to) all around ;
and join with a sl-st to the 1st st. (16 ch-3 sps)
Round 3 : sc in the 1st dc ;
(ch 3, sk next dc, sc in the next dc) ;
rep (to) all around ;
ch 1 + dc, sk next dc, and join with a sl-st to the 1st st.
Note : Working ch 1 + dc means you are in the centre of the last ch-3 sp.
If you are not happy with this work ch 3 and join with a sl-st to the 1st st. Then work sl-st and go to the centre of the 1st ch-3 sp and start Round 4.
Double crochet 2-tog : dc 2-tog : [yo, insert hk in st or ch-sp, yo and pull up a lp ; yo and draw through 2 lps] 2 times (3 lps on hk) ;
{yo, draw through 2 lps on hk} 2 times. One dc 2-tog made.
This video tutorial at https://youtu.be/1_oPlUfN5eg shows you how to use the dc 2-tog to decrease.
Round 4 : Split dc 2-tog over the 1st ch-3 sp and the next ch-3 sp ;
(ch 5, Split dc 2-tog over the last ch-3 sp and the next ch-3 sp) ;
rep (to) all around till the last Split dc 2-tog ;
ch 3 + dc and join to the 1st st.
Note : Working ch 3 + dc means you are in the centre of the last ch-5 sp.
If you are not happy with this work ch 5 and join with a sl-st to the 1st st. Then work sl-st and go to the centre of the 1st ch-5 sp and start Round 5.
Round 5 : dc in the 1st ch-5 sp ;
(ch 5, dc in the next ch-5 sp) ;
rep (to) all around till the last ch-5 sp ;
dc in the last ch-5 sp ;
ch 3 + dc and join to the 1st st.
Round 6 : 2 dc in the 1st ch-5 sp ;
(ch 1, [2 dc, ch 5, 2 dc] all in the next ch-5 sp) ;
rep (to) all around till the 1st ch-5 sp ;
2 dc ; ch 3 + dc and join to the 1st st.
Half Double Crochet : Hdc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (3 lps on hk) ;
yo, draw through all 3 lps. One hdc made.
Check out the video at https://youtu.be/sDiELJdB2Dg
Round 7 : 4 dc in the 1st ch-5 sp ;
*hdc in the next ch-1 sp ;
[4 dc ; ch 2, 4 dc all in the next ch-5 sp]* ;
rep *to* all around till the 1st ch-5 sp ;
4 dc ; ch 2 and join to the 1st st with a sl-st.
For the next round, we need to start in the ch-2 sp, which is behind us. So for this, I turned my work around and sl-st into the ch-2 sp, and then turned around again to start working the right way.
Whatever way you decide, we start in a ch-2 sp.
Round 8 : sl-st past the 1st ch-2 sp ;
sc in the 1st ch-2 sp ;
(ch 15, sc in the next ch-2 sp) ;
rep (to) all around and join with a sl-st to the 1st st.
Double crochet 2-tog : dc 2-tog : [yo, insert hk in st or ch-sp, yo and pull up a lp ; yo and draw through 2 lps] 2 times (3 lps on hk) ;
{yo, draw through 2 lps on hk} 2 times. One dc 2-tog made.
This video tutorial at https://youtu.be/1_oPlUfN5eg shows you how to use the dc 2-tog to decrease.
Round 9 : sl-st past the 1st 2 ch of the ch-15 sp ;
(dc 2-tog over the next 2 ch ; dc in the next 3 ch ;
[2 dc in the next ch ; ch 5, 2 dc in the same ch] ;
dc in the next 3 ch ;
dc 2-tog over the next 2 ch] ;
*sk the next 4 ch and sc, rep (to) once ;
rep [to] once* ;
rep *to* all around and join with a sl-st to the 1st st.
This is the first round of our chevron pattern.. how beautiful is this already, right?
Round 9 : sl-st past the 1st st ;
dc 2-tog over the next 2 dc ;
*dc in the next 3 dc ;
(3 dc ; ch 3, 3 dc) all in the next ch-5 sp ;
dc in the next 3 dc ;
dc 2-tog over the next 2 dc ;
sk next 2 sts, dc 2-tog over the next 2 dc*
rep *to* all around and join with a sl-st to the 1st st.
Round 10 : sl-st past the 1st st ;
dc 2-tog over the next 2 dc ;
*dc in the next 4 dc ;
(3 dc ; ch 3, 3 dc) all in the next ch-5 sp ;
dc in the next 4 dc ;
dc 2-tog over the next 2 dc ;
sk next 2 sts, dc 2-tog over the next 2 dc*
rep *to* all around and join with a sl-st to the 1st st.
and that's our beautiful doily done.
Now here's a tweak. I really like how this is opening out and if you want to work a few more rounds in the chevron (as I am going to) here's what I'd do
In the photo above, I've already worked the Optional Rounds below
Optional Rounds : sl-st past the 1st st ;
dc 2-tog over the next 2 dc ;
*dc in the dc till the ch-5 sp ;
(3 dc ; ch 3, 3 dc) all in the next ch-5 sp ;
dc in the dc till you have only 3 dc left ;
dc 2-tog over the next 2 dc ;
sk next 2 sts, dc 2-tog over the next 2 dc*
rep *to* all around and join with a sl-st to the 1st st.
Rep this optional round as many times as you want to grow your doily.
Do let me know how this works out especially if you have added beads at the ends.
And as always, do reach out to me via my different social media handles and show me what you've created. I'd love to share your work on my social media as well.
