EXQUISITE PINEAPPLE SHAWL

EXQUISITE PINEAPPLE SHAWL

I just made a latticed spider shawl and as soon as it was off the block, I was requested to make a pineapple one.. so here’s what I am making – an unusual one with pineapples beautifully scattered along the ends ..love it.  I just loved how the designer has called this “I promise you pineapples” because they DO turn up.. rigggght at the very end of the shawl.. and that’s what is so beautiful and exquisite about this creation.

Thank you for joining me.

Materials used : I have used about 140 gms of our lovely Indian Oswal Cashmilon 3-ply, light fingering yarn with a 3.5 mm crochet hook
You could also use our Indian Anchor / Red rose / White or the wide range of Alize knitting cotton yarns with a 3 - 3.5 mm crochet hook too.

Size made : ~ 40” x 66”
I give you the sizing only so you can figure out how much yarn you need.  This does not need to be the size you make.

This is not my original pattern.  Get the pattern at http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/i-promise-you-pineapples
and this is the lovely photograph that got me started on this pattern (this is the designer's project)

My notes this time are really brief, and are only for the difference in yarn, so that people using my kind of yarn can figure out sizing etc.

and this is what I got with when laid flat down..

The designer has used a much thicker yarn and a J (6 mm) crochet hook.  She has added that this may not work with a thinner yarn/hook, but suggested that if we repeat rows 18-21, we could get a slight increase.
I thought I’d try .. and am thrilled that it worked.
I worked 3 repeats of 18-21 and then carried on with the pattern from Row 22.
Now the having said that, one will need to remember that instructions from Row 22 (due to the number of increases we have made, if you veer away from the original pattern) need to be calculated yourself.
This is not such a big worry because the designer has done two wonderful things
(a) she has marked / underlined which set are the centre , and
(b) after Row 21, the pattern kind-of changes to start the pineapples, and then it’s just the pineapples till the end.

I love how this shawl has turned out – looks like the wings of a butterfly methinks… and pineapples as well.. Love it .. don’t you?

so here are some more photos..

Finishing :
A lovely shawl always needs a lovely finish.  Ensure that you block your project for best effect, keeping in mind yarn instructions for blocking.
Who knows, but you could try a line of beads at the end of the project!! I think it would look swell.

If you so decide, here’s a quick link on how to add beads in your project https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8MbLCuyfv-M

And just in case you are trying to work out how to thread your beads onto your yarn, then here’s a lovely video link

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Please do tag me on Facebook when you finish your product, as I’d love to see your creation(s).
