THIS 'N THAT BLANKET

Start with C-2-C granny square idea and then work a log blanket like pattern all around to get this unusual diagonal and square blanket effect.. so just a little bit of this and a little bit of that....how do you like it?

Materials used : Today I’ve used ~ 700 gms in different colors of Ganga Alisha acrylic yarn with a 5 mm crochet hook ; embroidery needle & fabric glue to seal ends

This yarn is not specific for this project.

You can use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.

For Indians : You could use Anchor , Red ros e ; Red rose metallic ; Laura or unbranded knitting cotton as well as acrylic yarns

International yarns : Among the international yarns I have used, I’d suggest Aunt Lydia Cotton 10, Aunt Lydia Bamboo-Viscose 10, DMC Petra, Sullivans knitting cotton (Australia), Milford Soft, Hilaza Rustica Eclat , Alize cotton yarn and Alize bamboo yarn.

Size made : 40" x 40"

This is only given to you to get a general idea of how much yarn you may need.

You can make this to any size to just use up your yarn.

Difficulty level : Intermediate to Advanced Skill level.

Abbreviations used : (Using U.S terminology)

lp(s) : Loop(s) sc : Single crochet

dc : Double crochet sp : Space

sl-st : Slip stitch ch : Chain

st(s) : Stitch(es) hk : Hook

yo : Yarn Over

Please note that I start all my rows with a ch 1, turning chain for ease.

Please read through all my notes before you pick up your hook, so you know just where we're heading in our pattern.

In my patterns I work with the principle of stitch count and body measurement.

This means that you need to work the stitch count in pattern, till you get the measurement (length and/or width) that you need for your project.

Chainless start for Double Crochet : I dislike the ch-2 / ch – 3 start, and this is what I do to start my row of dc.

There are two parts to this creation.

Part 1 work a C-2-C that makes the centre of the blanket.

Check the video to see how to work the C-2-C pattern.

Then work a square for 3/4ths of the width/length you need.

So say you want a 40" x 40" blanket, make that centre C-2-C portion say 20- 25".

Part 2 : This is working the log blanket idea but its way simpler

So how do we do this?

Once you have finished your C-2-C, re-attach your yarn at any corner. Then work all the way down one side using sc /hdc or dc (choose which st suits you for this section). As we have worked dc for the C-2-C, remember to work 2 sts in each horizontal bar of the dcs all the way down ; and/or 1 st in each st as required.

Whatever st you use for this first row, ensure that at the end of the row it is all sitting neat and flat. Turn at the end of the row and continue working1 st in each st all the way down.

If , like me, you wish to have multiple colors along the edge, then work 2 - 4 rows per color and then fasten off.

You will then move to work the next side. Re-attach yarn at one corner again, and work all the way to the end. Once again remember to work 2 sts in each each horizontal bar of the dcs.

At the end of the row once again, turn and work all the way back.

Continue to work 2 - 4 rows per color each section so that you get this log blanket like overlap effect. Change colors as required every row.

To finish, I'd suggest you work hdc or sc.

you could also end with a round of picot

How to work a picot stitch : Traditionally for a ch-3 picot, you work (ch 3, sl-st in 3rd ch from hook). For a ch-5 picot, you will do (ch 5, sl-st in 5th ch from hook).
