MULTI-USE FLORAL LADIES BELT

This multi-use belt has been made for a friend, and the ‘multi’ bit is making more than one ‘weave-in’ tie, so that she can use it for formal or informal wear.

Materials used :Today I’ve used our lovely Indian polyester (purse) yarn with a 4 mm

crochet hook ; beads ; pearls ; a belt buckle ; fabric glue to seal ends neatly

For Indians : You could use Anchor , Red ros e ; Red rose metallic or unbranded knitting cotton as well as Oswal or Vardhaman acrylic yarns

General yarn info : Use any yarn with a suitable hook

International yarns : Among the international yarns I have used in this thickness, I’d suggest Aunt Lydia Cotton 10, Aunt Lydia Bamboo-Viscose 10, DMC Petra, Sullivans knitting cotton (Australia), Milford Soft, Hilaza Rustica Eclat , Alize cotton yarn and Alize bamboo yarn.

Skill level : Intermediate.

The motif pattern itself is not difficult, but there are combinations and attachment of motif which makes it intermediate level.

Abbreviations used : (Using U.S terminology)

ch : chain ch-sp : chain space

sp : space rep : Repeat
fsc : Foundation single crochet
dc : Double crochet

Instructions :

Please note that I start all my rows with a ch 1, turning chain for ease.

Please check the top of this blog for easy video tutorials on all stitches used in today's pattern.

Please read through all my notes before you pick up your hook, so you know just where we're heading in our pattern.

In my patterns I work with the principle of stitch count and body measurement. This means that you need to work the stitch count in pattern, till you get the measurement (length and/or width) that you need for your project.

For your convenience, I have listed a few stitch video links at the top of this blog, and then added a few along the blog as well.

This is not my original idea. I found this lovely pattern on a Pinterest page with a neat chart. I have, however, tweaked it a bit to suit my needs.

So what we’re making essentially are a few granny squares or circles, and we’re going to use the centre of each to ‘thread’ the tie-cord which will hold your belt up. Sound easy, right..so let’s get to it.

Double Crochet : dc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (3 lps on hk);

[yo, draw through 2 lps] twice. One dc made.

Chainless start for Double Crochet : I dislike the ch-2 / ch – 3 start, and this is what I do to start my row of dc.

Single Crochet : Sc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (2 lps on hk); yo, draw through both lps. One sc made. Check out the video at https://youtu.be/ghACqBpA-3k

Start : with a magic circle and 24 dc in that circle.
Join with a sl-st to the 1^st st.

Round 1 : sc in the 1^stdc ;
(ch 5, sk next 2 dc, sc in the next dc) ;

rep (to) till last 2 dc ;
ch 2, sk last 2 dc, dc in the 1^st sc.

You are now in the centre of that last ch-5 sp.

Round 2 : sc in the 1^stch-5 sp ;

*(ch 3, dc 3-tog in the next ch-5 sp ;
[ch 3, dc 3-tog in the same ch-5 sp] ;

rep [to] once) ;
ch 3, sc in the next ch-5 sp* ;

rep *to* 2 times ;
rep (to) once ;
dc into the 1^st sc.

The chart goes on but this is where I’ve stopped ; fastened off and woven ends.

In case you want a wider, then do carry on with the pattern.

Round 3 : sc in the 1^st st (which is the top of the dc 3-tog) ;

*ch 5, sk next sc, sc in the next dc 3-tog ;
2 sc in the next ch-3 sp ;
ch 7, sk next dc 3-tog, 2 sc in the next ch-3 sp ;
sc in the next dc 3-tog* ;

rep *to* till last ch-3 sp ;
2 sc in the ch-3 sp ;
and join with a sl-st to the 1^st sc.

Round 4 : dc in the 1^st sc ;
*(5 dc in the next ch-5 sp) ;
dc in the next 3 sc ; 11 dc in the next ch-7 sp* ;
rep *to* till last corner ch-7 sp ;
dc in the last 2 dc ;
and join with a sl-st to the 1^st dc.

Round 5 : sl-st into the 2^nd dc ;

*(ch 5, sk next 2 dc, sc in the next dc) ;
rep (to) 6 times ;
[ch 5, sk next 3 dc, sc in the next dc]* ;

rep *to* till end.
Join with a sl-st to the 1^st dc.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Finishing :

Note 1 : If you have finished after Round 2, we will be using the ch-3 sp between the dc 3-tog to join two motifs.

So we have three dc 3-tog sets in each corner ch-5 sp.
You will sk the 1^st two dc 3-tog and then use the second ch-3 sp, the next two ch-3 sps (sk sc in between) , and the next ch-3 sp, sk the next dc 3-tog.

So we have four sets of join between motifs.

For each join, we will do a ch, then join with the next motif and another join between motifs.

Note 2 : Use the corner ch-5 sps to join two motifs together.
The corner ch-5 sps are those that are next to the three dc 3-tog bits, as you may recall.

Tie cord : So for the tie cord, I have worked a long length of fdc and then just strung it through the holes of the motifs.
I have also given a video link for an I-cord. Use what works for you.
