CROSS STITCH COWL

Cross Stitch Cowl - free crochet pattern info from Sweet Nothings Crochet
 CROSS STITCH COWL

The Lion Brand Hometown acrylic yarn is a lovely soft chunky yarn and with this cross stitch pattern its a very soft, warm creation.  I decided to make a cowl (or an infinity scarf) and was very happy with the end result.

Materials used : Today I’ve used ~ 150 gms Lion Brand Hometown acrylic  yarn with a 9 mm crochet hook ; embroidery needle fabric glue to seal ends ; crochet stitch markers
For Indians The yarn I’ve used is similar in thickness to our Vardhaman Oswal  acrylic yarns  or Laura knitting cotton .
You could use Anchor , Red rose , 4-ply knitting cotton , or unbranded knitting cotton or White Rose or bamboo knitting cotton , Milk cotton ; Silk yarns Baby soft acrylic yarn , Ganga Spectrum as well
General yarn info : The yarn used today is not specific to this pattern.
You can use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.
International yarns :  Among the international yarns I have used in this thickness, I’d suggest Lily Sugar n' Cream cotton yarn, Caron Simply Soft , Bernat Softee chunky.
but I think you could also use Aunt Lydia Cotton 10, Aunt Lydia Bamboo-Viscose 10, DMC Petra, Sullivans knitting cotton (Australia), Milford Soft, Hilaza Rustica Eclat , Alize cotton yarn and Alize bamboo yarn
Difficulty level : Intermediate
Size made :  48" x 8.25"
Size only given for yarn estimation.  You can make this project to any size you want.

Instructions using U.S terminology
Please note that I start all my rounds / rows with a ch 1 turning chain for ease.
Please check the top of this blog for video tutorials of all the stitches used in today’s pattern.
Please note that I take a lot of trouble to give loads of tips through my pattern sheet, so please read through the full sheet before you pick up your hook n yarn.

For today's pattern, please go here

1) The pattern starts with chain, but I prefer the fsc start so check out the video below
In case the video does not come on, please visit https://youtu.be/mcT85fwh4mA

2) The pattern specifies 42 stitches, but I wanted a longer cowl, so I worked as many sts as I wanted (in fsc) for the cowl length, in even numbers

3) Though I started with fsc, I could easily work the special stitch given. I then worked a last row of sc at the other end for a neat finish.

see the beautiful stitch
you see what I mean by the soft chunky look.. so lovely

lighting and background make such a differencethe finished Cross Stitch Cowl
yes, its the same project - background and lighting make such a difference!

4) Though this project has been worked as a cowl, you could easily make this into a scarf.  Just work the pattern as given without joining the ends
To get the exact same pattern, I'd suggest that you start leaving 6" of yarn (for a tassel finish) and at the end leave another 6" and fasten off.  Then start with the next row with a fresh yarn, again leaving 6" and ending with 6".
If you decide to turn at the end of each row (i.e. without leaving the 6" start and end), then you will get a slightly different but as lovely a pattern.  Then if you decide you want to add tassels, check out the two videos below
