Oh, and may I add that the fastest way to find any of my blogs is via Pinterest.

Foundation double crochet (fdc) : This is a unique way of starting a project directly with a row of double crochet stitches. Here is an easy video tutorial https://youtu.be/hjNUYVvyU9k
Our stitch count for the pattern is in even numbers
Start Row 1 : with fdc in even number for the width you need for your cowl. Turn.
I started with 30 fdc = 8."
Rows 2 - 4 : dc in 1st st and in each st till end. Turn.
Triple Crochet : trc : wrap yarn twice around hook, insert hk into st ; yo (4 lps on hk); [yo, draw through 2 lps] three times. One trc made.
Check out the video at https://youtu.be/A0y4BbgDTbsIf you are making a cowl, end with Row 5.
Use one of the joining methods given below to join the two ends of your cowl
If you are making a scarf, end with Row 9 (or 10) to match the start.
Here's another idea. A small tweak that will create a whole new pattern.
Work two rows of the crossed stitch and then 4 rows of plain dc.
and if you work both these ideas together. (i.e. the original pattern as well as the small tweak / pattern 2), you'll get a pretty neat cowl.
Go crazy.. create something unique.
