HOUNDSTOOTH SWEATER TOP SET
Boy's clothing and unisex crochet clothing is quite hard to find so you'll enjoy this great pattern that fulfils both categories. The crochet houndstooth pattern is a really beautiful one, don't you agree? I have a houndstooth combo before - of a pair of fingerless gloves with a matching scarf / cowl - and were I to make this in full size, I think I'd have a great set
Oh you can find the fingerless gloves here and here and a houndstooth scarf here
In today's pattern blog, you'll get one main pattern that I have made in three different ways. It's fantastic how one pattern can be interpreted and used in so many ways to give such different end results. Remember to go all the way to the end of this blog. Thank you for joining me.
In case you have just joined me, know that you can access all of my earlier creations by checking under ‘categories’ on the right hand side of this blog under “Labels”.
How labels work : All patterns under a similar label can be found together so when you click on the label for say "crochet baby dress pattern", all my baby dress patterns are available - so scroll down to the very bottom and click on "Older Posts" to move onto the next post in the series. Before you reach that you have several other ways to find my blogs including blog links at the bottom of this blog For your convenience, follow me here or on Facebook, You Tube, Pinterest, Twitter or Instagram. Oh, and may I add that the fastest way to find any of my blogs is via Pinterest and if you are looking for more children wear then come here All my blogs can be printed. Find theprint friendly (green) link on the right of this blog. You can also hit Control P (or Command P for Mac) on your keyboard, and the blog will go directly to the connected printer. First stitch for Single Crochet : This is how I like to start my row of sc. Check out the video at https://youtu.be/6pVYRfsf4_M
As I mentioned earlier, I have made this pattern with plain solid yarn too.
For this jacket sweater I used just under 200 gms of Vardhman Cotton Dreamz knitting cotton with a 4.5 & 5 mm crochet hook
For this I made just the same changes as above for stitches BUT I also worked from centre front , around and under armhole to back, and back to the front in rows. So I kept the pattern given (which has us turning at the end of rows anyway) but I also got an open front.
When I was done, I worked a few rows of hdc up and down the front to get a placket.
One side side of your placket is all hdc ; on the other side you need to make button holes.
Buttonhole :
For this work hdc ; ch 1, sk 1 st, hdc in the 5 (or 6) next sts.
Work this evenly to the end.
I suggest you count the sts end to end and divide evenly.
In the following row (after skipping sts) you will work 1 hdc in each st and 1 hdc in each ch-sp all hew ay end to end.
Collar button :
I just decided to add a small button along the neckline / collar - and worked an additional few hdc rows just on the neckline , sufficient to hold one button. As before work the button hold idea where you want the button to fit in. Obviously, the button is on the neck section and the hold is on the extension you work.
I matched the pattern for the sleeves and bottom edge - and totally loved my open front jacket.
Baby blue sweater and cap
For the final creation, I used unbranded 4-ply acrylic with a 4mm crochet hook
For the yoke section, I worked the moss pattern as given, and then changed to all hdc for the body portion.
I also thought a short sleeve would be cute
For the armhole/sleeve ending and base I worked the hdss (half double crochet slip stitch) pattern
And this is one enchanting sweater top all ready to go.
For the matching cap I worked a simple pattern :
Starting with 10 hdc and increasing till I had 50 hdc (which was about 5" : and that is about the diameter you need for a 16-17" circumference cap)
At this point I worked all hdc till I had 6"
For the final 1.5" I worked fphdc & bphdc alternatively in each st all around to get a ribbed rim finish - videos below
Front post half double crochet : fphdc :Post stitches are stitches worked around the post of a stitch of the row below. Here is an easy video tutorial for the fphdc at https://youtu.be/R_dVr9FnBkk
Back post half double crochet : bphdc :Post stitches are stitches worked around the post of a stitch of the row below. Here is an easy video tutorial for the bphdc at https://youtu.be/9jJHgDX2MsE
